The EMT-B leads, directs, and participates in the delivery of basic life support and participates in the delivery of advanced life support in a pre-hospital or facility situation. When operating as attendant- in-charge, the EMT provides direction to other crew members on patient care and medical issues. The EMT delivers emergency medical care to patients as indicated by medical control or patient care protocols. Duties & Responsibilities: Time will be spent leading, directing, and participating in the delivery of basic life support in a pre-hospital or facility situation. Gives direction to other crew members when operating as attendant-in-charge on patient care and medical issues. Examines patients and reports findings to receiving medical staff or physicians. Delivers emergency medical care to patients as indicated by medical control or patient care protocols. Operate the ambulance in accordance with safety rules and regulations; company policies; federal, state and local laws, regulations and statutes. Responsible for completing and recording all required reports or runs made by the crews. Assuring that assigned vehicle is completely stocked and in good running order at the beginning of each shift, after every response and at the end of each shift. Cleaning patient care compartment and vehicle in accordance with Company adopted infection control and maintenance guidelines. Fuel unit at the end of every shift to maintain emergency readiness of unit. General Definition of Work Performs intermediate protective service and technical work in providing emergency medical care and transportation of sick and injured under emergency conditions; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Emergency Medical Services Director. Typical Qualifications Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by required emergency medical, technical and cardiac training and a minimum of 1 year experience as an Emergency Medical Technician. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and automobile extraction and transportation; some knowledge of the street system and geography of the County; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to keep simple records and prepare reports; skill in diagnosing a victim's condition and applying emergency medical care; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, medical practitioners and the general public.
