American Farm Bureau Federation [AFBF] is looking for a Paralegal. The Paralegal will assist department staff in the handling of all legal affairs and corporate governance functions of the organization. They will report to the Governance Administrator. This role will be located in Washington, DC at a salary range of $95,000 - 105,000. This position is eligible for telework schedule.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in scheduling, planning and preparation of materials for AFBF Board of Directors and affiliated companies. This includes maintaining documents on board portal, board email lists, board and committee charts, drafting meeting notices, agendas, and first drafts of meeting minutes, drafting registration form for board meetings, monitoring responses and working with office operations team to ensure proper hotel accommodations.
Assist with planning and preparation for annual meeting of the AFBF voting delegates, including management of voting delegate registration, staffing the credentials desk, and preparing voting delegate meeting materials and other related materials as requested.
Coordinating with accounting staff to ensure appropriate board and delegate per diem payment and expense reimbursement.
Assist with maintenance of corporate and historical records housed within the Office of General Counsel, including permanent records of the voting delegates, board of directors and related committees.
Assist with review and processing of routine business contracts, leases and renewal of corporate insurance policies including monitoring of contracts in need of review, communications with staff regarding contracts, timely documentation of contract status, and ensuring appropriate electronic filing of all final contracts.
Assist in editing and production of legal department communications, publications and presentations including preparation of reports on legal advocacy program and related expenses.
Conduct legal and other research as needed.
Administration and maintenance of Document Management System.
Preparation of forms for AFBFA's state charitable solicitation registrations and IDEA's state business registrations, working with outside counsel and accounting staff as needed.
Maintenance and organization of legal case room.
Assist with organizing and hosting legal meetings and conferences as requested.
Other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Maintain strong, positive relationships with OGC and other AFBF staff, AFBF and affiliated companies' officers and boards of directors, volunteer leaders and state Farm Bureau staff.
EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
Bachelor's degree required
Paralegal Studies degree or certification preferred
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
3-5 years of law firm or corporate legal department experience
Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage a large workload efficiently and effectively
