Qualifications: Candidates should have good communication, writing, organizational, and oral presentation skills; ability to read, analyze and synthesize large volumes of school and other records; and strong demonstrated commitment to anti-poverty and civil rights work. The salary for this position is based on a union scale. As a Trademark Paralegal at New Balance, you will provide for Trademark and Brand Enforcement group and the Legal Department with support in all aspects of trademark maintenance and brand enforcement. MAJOR Accountabilities:
Trademark Docketing: support the Brand Enforcement and Trademark group with docketing functions, data entry, updating existing records, tracking and following up on deadlines.
* Review and process a large volume of e-mail, mailings, correspondence and pleadings related to trademark matters from the USPTO, foreign counsel and other foreign trademark offices.
* Responsible for maintaining and managing of WebTMS docket system for all trademark prosecution and enforcement, entering all correspondence, documents and filings, ensuring all matters are up to date, dates and reminders are correct, and entry format consistent across all matters
* Reporting out docketing deadlines, trademark reports and pulling other information from docket as requested by attorney and senior paralegals
* Preparing and distributing monthly/weekly/final deadline docket reports which reflect upcoming due dates and reminders to each member of the team for important deadlines.
* Keep a thorough record of all docketed items to resolve any questions that may arise regarding specific deadlines and/or methods used.
* Assist with other docketing related duties, reports and special projects, as necessary.
Trademark Paralegal:
* Manage a docket of trademark matters for one to two geographic regions and ensure that deadlines are handled
* Communicate professionally and accurately with clients to collect information and instructions related to trademark searches, filings, enforcements and litigations
* Instruct and supervise trademark prosecution and trademark enforcement matters handled by foreign law firms and coordinate the preparation, execution, notarization, legalization, and apostille of documents filed with international trademark offices
* Investigate infringing uses of trademarks
* Support two senior paralegals as needed
REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:
* Bachelor's Degree or Certificate in Paralegal studies from an accredited institution preferred; equivalent experience with 2 to 4 years' experience either in-house or with a law firm considered
* Trademark docketing experience required with knowledge of docketing software (WebTMS preferred but not necessary).
* Prior knowledge of US and foreign trademark prosecution process and understanding of relevant documents.
* Experience/ability to interface with USPTO, WIPO, and other websites regarding trademark matters.
* Good communication skills with attorneys and clients
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Aptitude for understanding a variety of databases and software to organize information and conduct research.
