Job Overview
Under direction of the Senior Construction Supervisor and/or Facility Supervisor, the Painter will provide daily maintenance operation and activities for all assigned facilities/areas including new construction/renovations. The incumbent receives and evaluates work orders and requests, investigates request or problems where appropriate, and establishes priorities. The incumbent must professionally interact with contractors, vendors, employees and our customer to maintain effective working relationships to meet department objectives.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
* Perform and complete the full variety of painting related tasks.
* Maintain, paint, and redecorate walls, woodwork and fixtures.
* Understand and utilize knowledge of surface peculiarities and types of paints required for different applications.
* Prepare surfaces for painting. This may include removing old finish or placing putty or filler in nail holes and interstices.
* Apply paint with spray gun, or brush, or roller.
* Mix colors, oils, and other paint ingredients to obtain proper color or consistency.

* High school graduate or equivalent GED.

Painting-Refinishing:
Performs complex coating work using any of the accepted methods of the trade such as graining, shadowing and shading colors.
Matches and mixes colors by eye or with a tinting machine to match historical and faded colors.
Applies decorative painting techniques to historical ornate designs. Applies primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats.
Refinishes and/or finishes walnut and mahogany doors, metal doors and cabinets, etc., to match historical natural wood finishes in historic buildings.
Applies paint, stain, varnish, enamel and other finishes to equipment, decorative walls and doors and/or other structures using brushes, spray guns or rollers.
Painting Preparation:
Removes fixtures such as pictures, door knobs, lamps and electric switch covers prior to painting. Protects floors and furnishings from damage during the painting project.
Prepares interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces. Removes old finishes using chemicals, scraping and sandpapering.
Calculates amounts of required materials and paint based on surface measurements. Mixes and matches colors of paint, stain or varnish with oil and thinning or drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistency.
Removes old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing or using water and/or abrasive blasting. Smooths surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool and/or sanding machines.
Uses special finishing techniques such as sponging, ragging, layering or faux finishing.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Success Criteria & Measurement

Perform checks to ensure units, parts, and assemblies are properly prepared before painting
Assist lead painters in preparing surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, and masking.
Mix and apply paints, varnishes, and other coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
Operate and maintain painting equipment and tools.
May involve material handling (i.e., moving units in paint area and in and out of spray booth, placing parts on racks for painting and drying)
Ensure the flow of the department so it does not fall behind on scheduled work.
Follow a daily painting schedule to ensure that all items are washed and prepped for paint for the day.
Follows all OSHA regulations and safety requirements for a safe work environment.
Learn to be a back up to Lead Painter
Qualifications
High School degree required
Minimum of 2 years' experience working in an manufacturing setting

The incumbent is responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized.
