General Summary:
Under general supervision, responsible for completion of all aspects of the paint preparation process.
On as needed basis, responsible for Cosmetic Reconditioning Associate II, Flow Inventory Associate II duties.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Complete body repairs, including masking, sanding, and grinding
Apply primer
Remove and replace parts
Repair plastic and substrate damage
Post-paint refinish and defect correction
Ensure that all vehicles meet CarMax Paint Standards
Maintain, repair, and clean special equipment
Ensure workplace cleanliness and organization in accordance with CarMax 5S standards
Provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers
Complete duties as assigned by Managers
Job Specifications:

Complete CarMax provided training in all functional areas of the inventory process, allowing for cross-training and full coverage of the inventory and detail area
Working Conditions:
Indoor and outdoor environments may include working at times in noisy and/or inclement weather conditions.
Requires walking or standing for extended periods of time. Variable work schedules with shifts that may include nights, weekends, holidays, and 12-hour days.
Wears CarMax clothing (acquired through the company) at all times working in the store.
Follow all CarMax, O.S.H.A., and EPA standards, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment and proper waste disposal in required areas.

Benefits:
Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.
Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.
Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.

The individual selected for this position will:
Painting-Refinishing:
Performs complex coating work using any of the accepted methods of the trade such as graining, shadowing and shading colors.
Matches and mixes colors by eye or with a tinting machine to match historical and faded colors.
Applies decorative painting techniques to historical ornate designs. Applies primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats.
Refinishes and/or finishes walnut and mahogany doors, metal doors and cabinets, etc., to match historical natural wood finishes in historic buildings.
Applies paint, stain, varnish, enamel and other finishes to equipment, decorative walls and doors and/or other structures using brushes, spray guns or rollers.
Painting Preparation:
Removes fixtures such as pictures, door knobs, lamps and electric switch covers prior to painting. Protects floors and furnishings from damage during the painting project.
Prepares interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces. Removes old finishes using chemicals, scraping and sandpapering.
Calculates amounts of required materials and paint based on surface measurements. Mixes and matches colors of paint, stain or varnish with oil and thinning or drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistency.
Removes old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing or using water and/or abrasive blasting. Smooths surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool and/or sanding machines.
Uses special finishing techniques such as sponging, ragging, layering or faux finishing.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Evens out dents out dents and scars by burning-in processes.
