Turner Industries Group is looking for an experienced Industrial Painters for work in the Decatur, AL area. * Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen * Must be able to pass pre-employment craft test Per diem and relocation are not available for this position; the successful candidate will be a current resident in the Decatur, AL area. General Requirements: Applies coats of paint or other materials to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures. Functional Requirements: Smooths surfaces using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool and removes old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting; fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty plaster or other filler; selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors; paints surfaces using brushes, spray guns, or rollers; may erect scaffolding or set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level; may hang wallpaper or other fabrics. SUMMARY To demonstrate knowledge and skills when applying protective coatings to surfaces. RESPONSIBILITIES - Apply paint, varnish, and other finishes to walls, ceilings, and other surfaces with brushes, rollers, and spray machines. - Prepare the surfaces to receive the coatings by cleaning the dirt, oil, and grease from the surfaces to be covered, removing old paint and wall coverings, cracks and holes are filled and smoothed over. - Must know what materials were used to make the paint and which types of paints are required for different materials, such as plaster, wood, brick, and metal. - Must have a good eye for color to mix and match paints. - Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS A high school diploma or equivalent, minimum eighteen years old, and be able to work well with their hands. Ability to judge colors is important. Working knowledge of different application techniques, proper care of tools and safe use and handling of paint, solvents, and adhesives. Must be physically able to work for long periods of time with arms raised overhead.
