Performs paint application to structural parts, components and subsystems for aircraft applications using products and processes that are varied and moderately complex to complex in scope to apply primer, topcoat paint, and any spray-applied coatings to aircraft parts consistent with government, customer and company standards. Essential Functions * Apply primer and finish coats, including masking, stripping and other detail work. * Lay out paint schemes and design templates. * Apply markings to parts and aircraft using several methods including silk screens, stencils and maskant aids. * Set up and operate such typical shop equipment as spray guns, paint mixers, paint measuring equipment and other general shop equipment and tools to complete work assignments. * Provide guidance and training to new or lesser skilled paint operation personnel. * Check work for completeness and accuracy. * Maintain Quality, Schedule and Cost standards. * Work from Blueprints, Work Instructions and Engineering Specifications. * Notify supervision of any/all malfunctions, defect and damages of equipment, material and product. * Adhere to all applicable Environmental, Safety, Health, FOD and Operations Procedures/Directives * Perform other duties as required. * Perform Production Accountability duties associated with the processing, verification, quality auditing, and inspection of assemblies, parts and tooling, * or which the individual has been delegated production accountability. * Ability to lift, carry and handle objects weighing 50 - 70 pounds Education/Experience * Four (4) years of high school or equivalent vocational or similar training, including shop math to interpret and work from blueprints, specifications, manuals, and operation and work sheet instructions. * Maintain any/all required certifications * Minimum two (2) year related experience, providing knowledge of a wide variety of aerospace/automotive/industrial coating application techniques. Responsibilities To accomplish their primary goal of painting and coating surfaces, Industrial Painters perform many tasks. We analyzed several job listings to identify these core industrial Painter duties and responsibilities. Clean and Prepare Surfaces Industrial Painters must first prepare the surface they are going to paint. If there are previous finishes on the surface, they remove them using masking, grit blast or chemical rinse. Then, they clean and smooth the surface and let it dry before painting. Prepare Paints Before starting a job, Industrial Painters prepare the paint they will use. They use measurement equipment such as viscosity cups, thickness gauges and gloss gauges to check the makeup of the paint, and use their understanding of chemistry to mix the appropriate compounds for the job. Apply Paint Painters use a variety of techniques and tools to paint surfaces. They may use spray equipment, airbrushes, stencils, rollers or brushes. Industrial painters must choose the best tool for the job at hand. They paint on primers, pre-finishes and finishing coats. Some Industrial Painters must use special safety equipment such as self-contained suits or protective eye wear. Clean Work Areas Industrial Painters clean up the area after they have finished a job. They must carefully follow all guidelines for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste. Maintain Equipment Industrial Painters are responsible for maintenance of their painting equipment, some of which is quite technical. Exceeds: Installs vinyl wallcoverings such as acrovyn and corner guard products. * Installs and repairs floors including stair treads and base cove. * Provides assistance to back up the locksmith by installing, repairing, and replacing locks and door hardware.
