This role involves inspecting and ensuring the quality of products, assembling, labeling, and sealing packages, filling liquids from tanks into containers, and transporting packed products to the shipping department. Job Position: Packer Job Location: West Chicago, IL Reports To: Production Supervisor Job Summary: Visually inspects all products, properly separate and package finished products being manufactured. Notifies appropriate team individual when quality, safety or production problems arise that cannot be resolved by individual. Core Job Responsibilities: Ensures that adequate vital supplies, i.e., tape, bagging, stamp, labels, cartons (knockdowns), etc., are available to perform duties. Constructs cardboard cartons to contain finished products manufactured, ensuring that proper carton is being utilized to hold products from bins. Visually inspects product for proper print and seal through plastic bag or in bulk form prior to bagging. Periodically open random logs of product to perform close visual inspection. Performs quality control by opening random bags of product to perform a close visual inspection along with notifying Production Leader or Production Equipment Operator immediately of any quality defects. Packs product into cartons while ensuring that the correct number of bags of product is packed based on order specifications or manually counts the amount product going into the bag if hand-bagging. Properly seal the carton and apply proper stamping and label(s) while making certain that stamp is legible and the correct code date is on each carton. Move the packed cartons of finished product to the designed stacking area and then place the stacks of cartons together in the correct configuration in preparation for pick-up by the forklift operator. Sets aside defective product for re-work or scrapping while making certain that no defective product is shipped to the customer. Work at an efficient and safe pace to keep packing bins or stacking tubes clear. Assures a smooth flow of product through the packing process by responding to any product jams (bells, buzzers or lights), clearing the product jam and restarting the equipment properly and safely. Follow safety procedures when starting, shutting down, un-jamming or tying the tail on a bagger. Adheres to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety, HACCP and SQF process requirements and sanitation guidelines rectify and or report any and all non-compliance to Management along with maintaining a high level of personal hygiene. The OW Line Packer is responsible for De-clipping, Loading, Inspecting, Packing, Palletizing and Rework of the Ready to Eat Deli Sticks and Summer Sausage Products in the OW RTE area. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: De-clipper Responsibility: Take the summer sausage from the meat racks, one metal meat stick at a time, and transfer to the loading table. Once the loading table is full, the de-clippers will pick up the summer sausage and insert each end into de-clipper machine. Will remove the center clips and string from the summer sausage utilizing the cutter from the de-clipper machine. The de-clipper will place the completed product into the inspection table, to be transferred to a clean empty V-Mag when ready. Once the de-clippers have filled the V-Mag with product, they will cover the V-Mag with plastic and wheel over to the appropriate line for further processing. Loaders: Will take the product from the hopper and check for clips and verify correct size, depending on the product type being ran. The Loaders will then load the product one by one into the pockets on the line. If the product size is too small, the product is rendered inedible. If the product size is too big, it will be placed for regrinding. Inspectors: Once the products are sealed and have reached the end of the conveyor belt the Inspectors on the line will perform the following inspection which includes the following: No wrinkles (anywhere in the film or seal) No open seals No meat in the seal No crooked labels Verify proper label standards Needs to show: Product expiration date Correct name on the label/product If products do not meet the packaging requirements, then the product is placed in a yellow rework bins. Packers: After the inspection is complete, the Packers will count the appropriate amount of product per specification and place the product into the designated boxes. The Packer arranges the product in the box according to product codes and specifications. The Packers will then feed the box down the line to be automatically taped and apply the label. Palletizer: Once sealed, the Palletizer at the end of the line will ensure the label is secure on to the box and taped correctly, then the Palletizer will remove the boxes from the line and onto the pallet. Rework: The rework table employees will rework product, as necessary, following product type requirements and specifications. REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to work in temperatures of 40 degrees or less and be able to lift up to 35 pounds for 30 minutes at a time. Must be flexible and able to work as needed. Must be willing to work within the two businesses (OW and CBC). Must be able to work in a high-speed packaging environment and be able to stand for up to 8 - 10 hours per day. Must have good hand/eye coordination and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities: Perform machine setups to start production cycles, ensuring safe and efficient operation. Operate various machinery, including rewinders, slitters, sealers, baggers, bailers, chop saws, pallet jacks, and shrink-wrap machines. Conduct routine inspections to ensure product quality throughout production cycles. Box, bag, sleeve, and palletize finished products. Keep records of approved and defective products, including counting, measuring, and weighing. Participate in quarterly or annual physical inventory. The OW Line Packer is responsible for De-clipping, Loading, Inspecting, Packing, Palletizing and Rework of the Ready to Eat Deli Sticks and Summer Sausage Products in the OW RTE area. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: De-clipper Responsibility: Take the summer sausage from the meat racks, one metal meat stick at a time, and transfer to the loading table. Once the loading table is full, the de-clippers will pick up the summer sausage and insert each end into de-clipper machine. Will remove the center clips and string from the summer sausage utilizing the cutter from the de-clipper machine. The de-clipper will place the completed product into the inspection table, to be transferred to a clean empty V-Mag when ready. Once the de-clippers have filled the V-Mag with product, they will cover the V-Mag with plastic and wheel over to the appropriate line for further processing. Loaders: Will take the product from the hopper and check for clips and verify correct size, depending on the product type being ran. The Loaders will then load the product one by one into the pockets on the line. If the product size is too small, the product is rendered inedible. If the product size is too big, it will be placed for regrinding. Inspectors: Once the products are sealed and have reached the end of the conveyor belt the Inspectors on the line will perform the following inspection which includes the following: No wrinkles (anywhere in the film or seal) No open seals No meat in the seal No crooked labels Verify proper label standards Needs to show: Product expiration date Correct name on the label/product If products do not meet the packaging requirements, then the product is placed in a yellow rework bins. Packers: After the inspection is complete, the Packers will count the appropriate amount of product per specification and place the product into the designated boxes. The Packer arranges the product in the box according to product codes and specifications. The Packers will then feed the box down the line to be automatically taped and apply the label. Palletizer: Once sealed, the Palletizer at the end of the line will ensure the label is secure on to the box and taped correctly, then the Palletizer will remove the boxes from the line and onto the pallet. Rework: The rework table employees will rework product, as necessary, following product type requirements and specifications. Click Here To Apply Purpose: To handle and inspect formed parts in the final production stage. Responsibilities: Pick, inspect, and pack finished product. Inspect parts to the quality requirements as listed in the quality manual and/or the customer specification. Pack parts according to the requirements per the product specification sheet. Apply labels or other identification to cartons/product during stages of manufacture and assembly. Stack completed cartons onto pallets in the configuration per product spec sheet when performing repack. Report immediately to the line operator and/or production lead any safety problems, quality problems, or material problems. Assemble and disassemble cartons as needed. Perform rework as needed, document losses and defects as required, and complete any appropriate documentation per the rework instructions. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times throughout the shift. Use/wear all required safety devices and comply with all safety regulations and policies. Adhere to all personal clothing, cleanliness, hair covering, all current GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and Food Safety requirements. Responsible for reporting food packaging safety problems to plant management. In the incumbents absence these responsibilities will be transferred to another Packer. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements: Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs, chemical control and food safety plans and policies. Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and quality responsibilities Experience and Education: Basic writing skills.
