The Candler/Packer job is an entry-level position responsible for monitoring and removing poor quality eggs from the machine while in operation and/or packing cartons of eggs in cases, racks, or trays. Responsibilities Ensure that the quality of the product being packed meets or exceeds USDA requirements. Remove poor quality eggs properly and in an efficient manner. Remove any B Grade eggs that the graders cannot identify and remove. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Packing good product in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring there are no missing eggs, bad cartons, or cases. Removing cracked or dirty eggs and replace. Monitor quality of stamps on eggs when applicable. Dispose of any eggs or trash dropped on the floor and place in proper trash receptacle. When encountering recurring problems, notify machine operator or management immediately if you notice any packaging problems such as double cartons, wrong dates, or broken eggs. Assist with training of other team members as needed. Fulfill additional tasks as assigned by Processing Supervisor, Processing Manager, and General Manager. However, candidates must be available to work until 6:00pm each day, and Saturdays 8:00am-5:00pm-- if required due to customer demand. · Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is preferred. Bottling line equipment operates at up to 150 bottles per minute. This requires packing up to 4 12-pack cases per minute and stacking as many as 750 cases per hour. Successful candidates must be able to work at this pace. · Bottles of honey can weigh up to 12 lbs. each, and cases can weigh up to 50 lbs. each. Candidates must be able to pack/lift/stack up to 50 lbs. · The initiative and willingness to learn additional skills is desired. Company operates the entire manufacturing process with a 6-7-person team- we rely on each team member to assist wherever needed. Job Title: Production Packer The Production Packer will safely handle, inspect and pack finished product into erected shipping container boxes to be sealed and processed to the Stacker or Robot for palletizing. Reporting Responsibilities: • Reports to the machine operator, shift and/or facility supervisor. Supervisory Responsibilities: • None. Duties/Responsibilities: A. Safety 1. Responsibilities in this area are to comply with safety rules and to report any unsafe conditions to the shift and/or facility supervisor immediately. 2. Keep corrugated in neat order throughout the day. 3. Keep packing area clean and clear of debris and gel. B. Quality 1. As you are packing, it is critical that you do the following: a. Flatten each unit as it is packed down. This is to ensure that the customer receives product that is uniform in shape so it will fit inside their containers. b. Perform both pressure (squeeze) and visual tests on each bag to ensure that no leaking or weak seals are present. c. Report any issues to the machine operator or above. d. Be able to produce to S.O.P. with correct counts. e. Ensure all product from the previous production run has been removed from the production line. C. Productivity 1. Responsibilities in this area include: a. Prior to each startup, it is your responsibility to prep boxes and prepare partitions for the product to be manufactured each day. b. Pack the correct number of units in each case. Please refer to the product specification sheet to ensure that you are aware how many units should be in each case for different products. c. Ensure that the proper code is being printed on the boxes by the inkjet printer (if required). d. Can perform the at the standard productivity rate on all products. Required Skills/Abilities: • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team. • Ability to read English to interpret and translate standard operating procedures. • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment. • Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable state safety and environmental regulations. Requirements: • Basic math and counting skills, must pass a verbal math test by reading questions out loud to show reading and comprehension ability as well as showing methods for solving word problems. • Ability to think outside the box and be aware. For example, can shut down the machine or contact operator when quality problem with the gel bag. • Ability to communicate effectively with people. • Shows willingness to be flexible and take on assignments that may be outside job requirements. Education and Experience: • High school diploma or equivalent required. • At least one (1) year of related experience (preferred) but not required. • Completion of training may be substituted for educational and experience requirements. Label packages accurately and legibly for easy identification and tracking. Construct custom crates based on product dimensions and shipping specifications. Use woodworking tools and equipment to cut, assemble, and reinforce crates as necessary. Ensure crates are sturdy and secure to withstand handling and transportation challenges. Collaborate with the logistics team to determine optimal crating solutions for various types of cargo. Repair and refurbish wooden crates, pallets, and shipping containers as needed. Fabricate wooden components for packaging purposes, such as skids, braces, and supports. Maintain carpentry tools and equipment in good working condition through regular maintenance and cleaning. Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while operating woodworking machinery. Conduct inspections of packed and crated items to verify compliance with quality standards and shipping regulations. Address any issues related to packaging integrity or product damage promptly and proactively. Collaborate with the quality control team to implement improvements to packing and crating processes as needed. Requirements: Previous experience in a warehouse or packing environment preferred. Vocational training or certification in carpentry or related field is a plus. Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card preferred. DG/Hazmat Packing experience a plus! Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and stand for extended periods. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Basic math skills for counting and recording inventory.
