Adheres to all good manufacturing practices (GMP), food safety, HACCP and SQF process requirements; rectify and/or report any and all non-compliance to Management or the SQF practitioner immediately. Ensures that adequate vital supplies, i.e., tape, bagging, knockdown cases, etc. are available to perform duties. Either obtains supplies or notifies Utility of requirements. Reports to all scheduled shifts and attends meetings as required Constructs carton to contain product, ensuring that proper carton is being utilized to hold product being produced. Visually inspects product through plastic bag or in bulk form prior to bagging. Inspects packaging for proper print and seal. Periodically opens random logs of product to perform close visual inspection. Notifies Production Leader or Production Equipment Operator immediately of any identified quality defects. Packs product into previously constructed cartons ensuring that the correct number of bags of product are packed according to product order specifications. Properly seals the carton and supplies proper stamping or labels, making certain that the code date is on each carton, correctly coded and legible. Sets aside defective product for correction or scrapping to make certain that no defective product reaches the customer. Works at an effective and safe pace to keep packing bins or stacking tubes clear. Assists other team members as required, without being asked. Assures smooth flow of product through the packing room by responding to any product jams (bells, buzzers, and lights), clearing the product jam, and restarting the equipment properly and safely. Repackages products that have been mispackaged due to miscounts. Maintains housekeeping standards by keeping a clean work area at all times. In the event of the absence of the Inspector/Packer due to vacations the Shift Supervisor will request an Inspection/ Packer fill in from another shift. Reporting Responsibilities • Reports to the machine operator, shift and/or facility supervisor. Supervisory Responsibilities • None. Duties/Responsibilities A. Safety Responsibilities in this area are to comply with safety rules and to report any unsafe conditions to the shift and/or facility supervisor immediately. Keep corrugated in neat order throughout the day. Keep the packing area clean and clear of debris and gel. Qualify in the safe use of manual pallet jacks; use of caution when operating the power and manual equipment. B. Quality 1. As you are packing, it is critical that you do the following: Flatten each unit as it is packed down. This is to ensure that the customer receives a product that is uniform in shape so it will fit inside their containers. Perform both pressure (squeeze) and visual tests on each bag to ensure that no leaking or weak seals are present. Report any issues to the machine operator or above. Be able to produce to S.O.P. with correct counts. Ensure all products from the previous production run have been removed from the production line. 2. As you are stacking, it is critical that you do the following: Ability to multi-task and perform the list of checks for product quality as defined by the standard operating procedures. Ability to help in equipment preventative maintenance (PM) process. (i.e., cleaning, inkjet printer flush out, etc.) Always check for things like product packages flat, correct & legible part number on boxes and use of correct pallet sheet. Perform weight audits on boxes to help ensure the correct quantity and weight gel packs are packed according to the product specification sheets. Ensure all products from the previous production run have been removed from the production line. C. Productivity 1. This duty will expand to other areas of the warehouse when time permits. •. Prior to each startup, it is your responsibility to prep boxes and prepare partitions for the product to be manufactured each day. • Pack the correct number of units in each case.
