Our member-led organizing committees -- which work on the issues named above -- implement strategies to combat shared problems, and develop leadership and the capacity for civic participation. We also provide an array of high-quality bilingual services: We offer English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Spanish-language literacy, computer literacy, citizenship preparation, and in-school and after-school youth programs. We have a robust legal program that offers direct representation across a spectrum of practice areas, including employment law, immigration law, housing and benefits, and TGNCIQ civil rights; we also take on impact litigation as a strategy for achieving broad change. The FEW Statewide Organizer position will join a dynamic team supporting the statewide Fund Excluded Workers Coalition. The FEW Coalition is comprised of 100+ groups across the state representing primarily low wage, immigrant workers excluded from unemployment insurance. This role will meaningfully engage with impacted community members, advocacy organizations, stakeholders and decision makers with the Fund Excluded Workers Coalition.
This position is set through December of 2022 with strong potential of renewal through May of 2023.
The FEW Coalition staff and this position are hosted and fiscally sponsored by Make the Road New York and in accordance with the salary scale and benefits of the organization.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead engagement with statewide FEW base groups
Facilitate recurring meetings with a large network of statewide groups ( NYC based and regional anchors) including agenda planning, strategy development, curriculum development and task management. Educate base groups and members about Excluded No More policy and other campaign topics by leading member meetings in coordination with other FEW base organizers Recruit and retain statewide base groups in campaign through 1:1’s and meaningful engagement
Mobilization and Advocacy
With direction from FEW Program Manager and FEW Steering Committee, support with programming, legislative lobby days, direct actions and mobilizations with FEW base groups across the city and state in line with campaign plan priorities Coordinate with FEW steering and anchor organizations on event logistics for direct actions geared towards legislators and the public Organize legislative lobby days with FEW Coalition affiliates Develop toolkits and other resources for coalition groups to use for campaign engagement across the state Provide direct support to statewide affiliates and travel to support with mobilizations and convenings as needed.
Policy
Support FEW Program Manager in liaising with city and statewide agencies to advocate for program / policy improvement, communicate member concerns, etc. Engage with Excluded No More policy committee to educate and communicate talking points to organizers and members
Administrative
Submit Salesforce records for FEW events for coalition reporting purposes; Translate general non-formal FEW materials (emails, general documents, etc); Update program budget as needed;
Expectation of hours/travel: 40 hours a week with occasional nights and weekends; expect significant travel to upstate regions to support with FEW mobilizing efforts
Requirements:
Eligible to work in the USA Must be fully vaccinated with an FDA COVID-19 vaccine prior to first day of employment. At least 2 years of work experience in a job with skills that are transferable to this specific position; At least one year of experience in leadership roles in a campaign. This may be a grassroots campaign, political campaign, union organizing campaign, or anything that you believe demonstrates you can design and effectively run a campaign for social change, working with partners and in coalition across issues and constituencies. Demonstrated experience to implement shared campaign objectives Demonstrated project management experience, with multiple teams across an organization and/or community. Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, the ability to flex communication styles to adapt to different cultural environments. Fully bilingual in Spanish and English (spoken and written), and comfortable conducting outreach, workshops, counseling in Spanish. Strong overall communication skills.
Preference but not required:
Former or current experience organizing with the Fund Excluded Workers Coalition and campaign
Job Competencies:
Strong facilitation and agenda setting skills. Strong command of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and experience using web-based databases Experience organizing data and developing internal and external communications Willingness to support and bring creativity to emergent areas of work History of engaging in anti-racism and anti-oppression training and desire to continue doing this work. Salary & Benefits
Starting salary is based on a scale set by a democratically-elected personnel committee and will depend on factors such as experience and education. MRNY offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $51,859 to $61,859

Requirements
Developing grassroots activist network: Develop a strong plan that engages grassroots activist networks, focusing on Springfield or Kansas City, and surrounding areas, to mobilize community members across our state to advance LGBTQ+ equality. This includes representing PROMO at events and tabling opportunities, Pride Festivals, volunteer fairs, and coalition events, as well as organizing in-district meetings and community events. Mobilize the community networks and stakeholders to act together on a coordinated plan, both for long-term campaigns and rapid response policy/legislative needs. Recognizing that community voice will drive our work, be adaptable and ready to follow the lead of the community.
Project Management and Event Organizing: In collaboration with the PROMO team develop and implement projects and programs that build movement power and advance the goals of gaining LGBTQ+ equality in the state. Projects will implement PROMO's mission to confront systemic inequities to liberate the full spectrum of the LGBTQ+ community from discrimination and oppression. Build trust and credibility with stakeholders (including volunteers, donors, activists, and more) in urban, suburban, and rural areas quickly and effectively, while understanding and being responsive to the diverse needs of each area.
Leadership Development: Develop sustainable programs that train LGBTQ+ community leaders and potential leaders. Develop activists' skills. Grow movement leadership and community ownership. Provide intentional space for decision makers, influencers, and stakeholders to learn, grow, and evolve on LGBTQ+ equality.
Assist Political Campaigns: In coordination with Sr. Director of Public Policy & Advocacy, assist in political campaigns as designated by PROMO PAC.
Digital Organizing: Maintain EveryAction database, manage and ensure accuracy of member systems, database, and reporting, in order to turn out PROMO members to build power.
Commitment: Demonstrates a strong commitment to equality for all LGBTQ+ persons, embraces an anti-racist and anti-transphobic approach based in an intersectional understanding of the experiences of our diverse constituency.
