What you'll be working on Production operators tend machines such as fillers, labelers, packaging, cappers, palletizers, etc. used for bottling water. The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring for a Heavy Equipment Operator II. The purpose of this position is to operate heavy equipment and trucks necessary for maintenance of grounds, buildings, and roads. Responsible for operating backhoes and bulldozers, loading and packing dirt, operating drag-line crane, clearing land, and constructing roads. This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks. Essential Tasks • Reviews daily assignments to plan most effective methods for completion; inspects equipment thoroughly before us. • Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, earthmovers, dump trucks, motor graders, dragline cranes, front-end loaders and/or tractors. • Clears and prepares landscapes for forging of manholes, building new roads, pipe laying, and other construction projects. • Constructs roads with crewmembers by cutting slopes, pulling ditches, laying blue top on road, clipping shoulders, and maintaining right-of-way. • Mows of rights-of-way, canals and ditches. • Maintains roads, canal right-of-way, ditches; assists with driveway installations. • Loads and packs dirt and other heavy materials. • Performs minor preventive maintenance and repair on equipment as necessary, and/or prepares machines for major servicing; may be responsible for repairing and maintaining crane equipment. • Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Qualification • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. • Two (2) years of experience operating heavy equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience Supplemental Information Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Lift Station Operator Division: Central Maintenance Salary: $37,358.10 Hourly Rate: $17.96 Department: Utilities Pay Grade: 12 * Inspects, maintains and repairs wastewater lift stations to prevent sanitary sewer overflow and to maintain proper efficiencies. * Researches, locates and acquires parts and equipment as needed. * Changes motors; replaces motor wiring. * Maintains and inspects control panel box components. * Repairs pumps; cleans valves. * Cleans bar screens; replaces belts; greases bearings; maintains level control. * Mows grass around station. * Performs related duties.
