Position Summary

Essential Functions:
Β· Operate one of three continuous running steel tube mills, producing tubing in a variety of different sizes, shapes, and gauges.
Β· Ensure the production of quality tubing at efficient speeds, including tubing for agricultural, mechanical, structural, and exhaust stack applications.
Β· Inspect and identify substandard products caused by issues such as poor steel, welds, or forms to prevent customer service problems.
Β· Select and install proper weld rolls, fin passes, impeders, scarfers, and any other tooling required to produce superior tubing.
Β· Adjust guide rolls, side rolls, forming rolls, driver rolls, and weld head rolls for consistent, high-quality output.
Β· Fine-tune mill setups after changeovers and identify the correct fin pass required for precise tube formation.
Β· Operate various tools and equipment including overhead cranes, 20,000 lb. CY forklift, uncoiler, coil car, looper, tube mills, welders, cutting torches, plasma cutter, grinders, tape measures, micrometers, OD and PI tape, Metco zinc spraying guns (including gas/oxygen), dial indicators, dial calipers and radius gauges, seam annealer unit and non-destructive test equipment.
Β· Set up and operate multiple flying cutoff systems to minimize burrs, scarf, and material waste while maximizing production speeds.
Β· Maintain accurate records of customer orders, coil usage, and production details, including prime and random footage.
Β· Adjust pull thru drive section and all Turksheads to ensure tubing meets tolerance specifications for ovality and straightness.
Β· Perform routine maintenance, such as changing filters, adjusting equipment, and addressing minor repairs to keep the mill running efficiently.
Β· Prioritize tasks effectively when covering multiple roles or addressing equipment malfunctions to ensure continuous mill operation.
Β· Monitor and maintain the cooling pit to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Β· Stage equipment efficiently to support upcoming setups and changeovers.
Β· Train and mentor newer employees while performing operational duties, often managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

Overview:

ABOUT THE JOB
The Equipment Operator is responsible for performing various equipment operating activities on a construction site. The Equipment Operator will regularly perform Laborer job functions based on client and project requirements.
Equipment Operator:
Operates various construction equipment safely and efficiently, including: excavators, loaders, graders, scrapers, skid loaders, and rollers.
Performs daily equipment inspection and maintenance requirements with proper documentation in compliance with company policies.
Offloads or load outs construction materials and/or debris.
Reads and interprets surveying staking pertaining to grade control and utilities.
Interacts with geotechnical engineer and interpret testing results.
Performs other duties associated with the operation and maintenance of equipment.
Laborer:
Identifies and operates hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, saws, power drills, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.
Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, including rubble and debris.
Reads and interprets plans, instructions, and specifications.
Controls passing traffic.
Signals Equipment Operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of equipment.
Identifies and follows safe working procedures.
Identifies and stops unsafe work practices that present imminent danger to others.
Performs other physical labor and responsibilities as assigned, including: digs ditches and trenches, backfills excavations, seals structural components, measures and records areas, unloads and identifies materials, assembles and erects equipment including scaffolding, pours concrete, and sets braces to support the sides of excavations.

10+ years' experience operating construction equipment: excavators, loaders, graders, scrapers, skid loaders, and rollers.
Must be able to communicate clearly with Superintendents, Equipment Operators, Laborers and all other personnel on site.
Must be able to read and understand construction drawings.
