Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Heavy Equipment Operator located in West Valley City, UT. The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating various pieces of heavy equipment, performing excavation tasks, and maintaining equipment. Daily tasks also include inspecting and operating used equipment to ensure it functions correctly and safely. The candidate must adhere to all safety protocols and procedures set forth by the company and industry regulations.
Qualifications
Proficiency in Equipment Operation and Heavy Equipment skills
Experience with Excavation tasks and techniques
Knowledge of Equipment Maintenance practices and Used Equipment operation
Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Prior experience in the construction or utilities industry is a plus

JOB MISSION:
Responsible for all functions in the Distribution Center with safety as a priority to ensure the highest level of quality to our customers around the world.

JOB SUMMARY
Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of heavy equipment and machinery used in construction, maintenance, repair, flood control, and/or landfill operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three (3) years of closely related experience.
Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the State of Utah at the time of hire or within thirty (30) days of hire date. Some positions may require a Class A CDL within three (3) months of hire date.
Must possess a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card at the time of hire or within thirty (30) days of hire date.
Must obtain forklift certifications within three (3) months of hire date.
Some positions may be required to obtain flagging certification within three (3) months of hire date.
Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates a variety of heavy equipment including bulldozers, large front end loaders, track hoes, 10-wheel dump trucks, scrapers, compactors, motor graders, excavators, and snow removal equipment to perform assigned Division-specific job duties.
Performs Division-specific journeyman level maintenance, repair, and construction work.
Performs tasks requiring the use of a variety of hand tools and equipment including picks, shovels, rakes, and chain saws
Checks, services, and performs routine maintenance on equipment; makes minor equipment repairs, field tests repaired equipment to insure operating efficiency.
Follows safety requirements in accordance with OSHA and/or MUTCD regulations and acceptable industry standards.
Trains new or less experienced operators in proper equipment operation and care.
Responds to emergency situations.
Solid Waste
Shreds, grades, compacts, and buries refuse to maintain daily sanitary disposal operations.
Maintains composting operations, inclusive of grinding or shredding compostable materials, watering and turning windrows, and maintaining daily temperature of compost.

Heavy Equipment Operator 1
Heavy Equipment Operator 1 is responsible for proper sorting, bailing and shipping of materials, collection of recycling, secure document management, training and supervision of student crew and other duties assigned by supervisor.
What you'll do in this position:
Sorting, bailing and shipping of materials
Receive recycling materials from collection trucks
Ensure materials are properly sorted to meet quality standards
Ensure materials are bailed, stored and shipped
Ensure confidential materials are securely handled and shredded
Maintaining equipment
Monitor equipment, especially horizontal bailer, for maintenance and repair needs
Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment
Supervision
Assign work duties to student crew
Training
Train employees in proper use of equipment and equipment safety
Collection
Collect material at University Press and other locations on campus
Provide recycling collection at events, such as sporting events, student orientation and moving in and out of housing
Safety
Recognize potential hazards in recycling process and provide resolution
Cleaning
Maintain recycling shop in a clean and safe condition
What qualifies you for this role:
Required:
Ability to work well with others
Ability to operate equipment - such as forklift, bailer, shredder, box truck, etc.
Ability to properly and legally load trucks
Preferred:
Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain
Working Conditions:
Physical Effort
Moderate - Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.

Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters
