Heavy Equipment Operator I QUALIFICATIONS: * Proof of high school graduation/GED equivalent preferred. * Valid Texas driver's license to start and obtain Texas Commercial driver's class A license with all appropriate endorsements and classifications and all other required licenses, permits and certificates within 90 days of employment. * Must have (3) three years of experience in CFISD grounds department or related employment in heavy equipment operation. * Ability to operate tractors with a variety of implement attachments. * Ability to drive dump trucks and truck/trailer units around the district safely. * High skill proficiency in operation of tractor, backhoe, mower, top dresser, aerator, brush hog, tiller, chainsaw, chipping machine and box blade. * Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. * Ability to speak, read and understand English. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260 days SALARY/PAYGRADE: $16.28/HS-6 Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2024-2025 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Mow large open areas on facility grounds in the district. * Trim trees and shrubs around the district using chain saws and chipping machine. * Remove debris from storms and other sources from district sites to maintain neat and orderly appearance. * Assist in the maintenance of playground fall surfaces. * Assist with special projects as needed. * Operate tools, equipment and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. * Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. * Ensure that vehicles, equipment and tools are in safe operating condition and perform preventative maintenance. * Inspect and adjust tools and equipment safety and efficiency. * Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. * Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by Maintenance Management Staff. * Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function. WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), and loud noises. Frequent district-wide travel.
