DEPARTMENT ONLY Job Type: Full-Time Pay Rate: $43.86 - $50.16/hr #LIDNI Operates equipment in the construction and maintenance of water mains and associated equipment. Essential Functions: Operates various pieces of construction equipment such as Crawler- excavator, tractor, backhoe, dump truck, wheel loader, truck crane, etc. Maintains equipment in good working order. Operates various tools such as jackhammer, cut-off saw, compactors, etc. Assists in water main and service installation and repairs. Performs water main restoration work including landscaping, concrete and asphalt repairs, etc. Installs and assembles pipe; installs hydrants and service valves. Fills in for Crew Leader on as-needed basis. Follows BWL Safety Manual and wears personal protective equipment as required. Attends training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA. Job Specifications: Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be qualified in all areas of Water Laborer. Candidates must possess a valid MI driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Upon hire they must provide proof of successful completion of the State of MI written portion of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) examination and pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam. Within 6 months of the date of hire they must successfully pass the MI CDL skills/road. Internal applicants must currently possess valid MI CDL with required endorsements or at minimum, pass DOT physical exam and State of MI written portion of CDL examination within 15 days of transfer. Individuals will be subject to DOT requirements in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA), including random testing for controlled substances and alcohol. Preferred: S-3 EGLE License Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds below the waist and above shoulder level. Considerable standing, walking, bending, twisting, and squatting throughout shift. Will occasionally climb ladders. Competent vision and depth perception required to operate construction equipment. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with customers. Sufficient level of hearing required to detect backup alarms on vehicles and to communicate effectively with crew members in a noisy production environment. Working Conditions: All temperature and humidity ranges. Occasional exposure to noise levels requiring hearing protection. Occasional exposure to mud and dust.
