* Operating water treatment plant equipment and facilities, supplying proper water quantity and quality, and maintaining proper pressures and flow volume for the city.
* Monitoring plant equipment through visual inspection for proper operating parameters and mechanical integrity; maintains a plant log detailing specific information. Assists in the operation and monitoring of all plant processes including filters, softening clarifiers, thickeners, vacuum filters, nanofiltration systems, degassifiers, scrubbers, etc., and chemical delivery systems for chlorine, lime, polymer, phosphates, fluoride, ferric chloride, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide and ammonia.
* Obtains and records field and computer readings of flow, tank and silo levels. Ensures delivery of various chemicals to their appropriate tanks; monitors the transfer of chemicals; receives chemicals for laboratory analysis;
* Collects samples and assists with all laboratory tests and or analysis including for chlorine, ammonia, pH, fluoride, conductivity, color, turbidity, alkalinity and hardness; Operates and adjusts pumps, agitators, computers, valves, and other equipment to maintain the highest degree of treatment under supervision.
* Complies with safety regulations and standard operating procedures. Complies with all federal state and county regulations for safe drinking water.
* Reads a variety of charts meters and SOP's; maintains accurate log sheet. Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep buildings, vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning work areas, painting of building surfaces, pipes and equipment, maintaining grounds including removing trash and emptying trash cans, replacing light bulbs, refilling paper supplies, reporting faulty equipment or problem situations. Works around rotating equipment and various hazardous chemicals.
* Performs various skilled and manual tasks in support of plant operations, which may include cleaning tanks, inspecting/draining containment areas, hosing clear well decks, checking/cleaning service pump room, exercising/cleaning eyewash and showers, de-scaling treatment basins, wiping down equipment and control panels, loading/unloading materials, lifting/moving heavy materials, painting building, piping and/or equipment surfaces.
* Utilizes a variety of mechanical tools which may include carpentry tools, shovel, pick axe, testing materials, diagnostic tools and radio communications equipment. Conducts periodic inventory counts of equipment, tools, chemicals, and supplies.
* Follows safety procedures while performing job functions, especially with the handling of caustics and acids; utilizes safety equipment when/where required, monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. Assists with maintaining and updating the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) logbook.
* As directed by supervisor, assists in supervising water plant staff in absence of superior; makes work assignments; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work; troubleshoots problem situations.
* As directed by supervisor, assists in supervising plant operations. Monitors all water treatment and pump processes, inspects water plant installations, tests water samples, directs or takes preventive/corrective action for mechanical functions & general equipment maintenance, reviews plant log records and testing/measuring devices to ensure proper functioning of equipment, performs other maintenance duties.
* As directed by supervisor, assists supervisor in developing procedures to adjust plant operations to meet normal and emergency variations in water demand, assists supervisor in establishing laboratory procedures for tests on water produced. Reviews test reports to determine adequacy of purification and correcting undesirable water conditions.
* Prepares for and performs emergency activities; monitors Florida Power & Light for load control notice and switches to generators when needed; monitors city radios and telephone systems for plant communications and emergency calls; conducts lockup operations during hurricane conditions; shuts down and restarts plant equipment and computer systems after maintenance, lightning, or power company shutdowns; notifies appropriate personnel in emergency situations involving hazardous chemicals.
* Takes and compares readings from plant operations computer, equipment, and assorted meters/gauges; maintains logs/records of test results, meter readings, chemical applications, and other data.
* As directed by supervisor prepares, completes or fill-out various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, charts, test forms, inspection sheets, checklists, historical data, rain reports, summary sheets, filter lab analysis sheets, monthly operating reports, inventory reports, purchase requests or other documents.
* Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages.
* Attends staff meetings, safety meetings, workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
In addition, Treatment Plant Operator A:
* Oversee, supervise and direct the duties of the personnel on an assigned shift.
* Communicate with management regarding operational, mechanical and technical problems and suggest changes that need to be made.
* High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma
* TPO C: Minimum of one (1) year actual experience in a Water Treatment Plant and a Class C Water Operators Certificate from State of Florida
* TPO B: Minimum of three (3) years actual experience in a Water Treatment Plant and a Class B Water Operators Certificate from State of Florida
* TPO A: Minimum of five (5) years actual experience in a Water Treatment Plant and a Class A Water Operators Certificate from State of Florida.

Duties/Responsibilities:
* Operates a Loader to complete tasks such as move and/or transport materials such as dirt, rocks, and other types of aggregate
* Must have knowledge of operating procedures as it pertains to loading and unloading materials
* May oil, grease, service, and make normal maintenance adjustments on equipment; perform daily safety and maintenance checks; complete paperwork and other documentation as needed
* May perform other related duties as required
Required Skills/Abilities:
* Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.

This is a Lean Six Sigma Utility looking for a skilled crew leader in the maintenance and repair of wastewater lift stations, equipment, and force mains. Installs, repairs, and maintains pumps, motors, generators, electrical motors, gauges, contacts, valves, and radio telemetry. Studies work reports and efficiency of equipment and system facilities, including interpreting force main maps and control panel diagrams, and makes recommendations for improvements to the supervisor. Will be "on call" and required to carry a cell phone for after-hours repairs and work overtime as needed. This is an essential position; the incumbent will be required to work extended hours during and after hurricanes or other disasters. Works proactively and provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers. Follows all safety procedures and promotes a safe work environment. A strong understanding of ethical behavior is required. Needs to have an intellectual curiosity and a desire to find answers.
Possess a Florida Wastewater Collection "B" Certificate and a Florida Class "B" CDL driver's license with tanker & air brake endorsements at the time of application. A high school diploma or equivalent, college-level courses are desirable, and Asset Management is a plus. Two years of experience in mechanical repairs, operations, and maintenance of wastewater pumping facilities. Must be able to interpret electrical and SCADA schematics and operate a computer with MS Office and GIS Mapping systems. As part of the interview process, an assessment of troubleshooting skills will be conducted in the field, as well as an evaluation of computer skills. Must complete all training programs, including confined space, hazardous materials handling, etc. Must be clean-shaven, and/or groomed to adhere to OSHA standard guidelines to pass a pulmonary respiration test and properly and physically wear a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus; applicant must pass a pulmonary function medical test. Ability to work at moderate heights, in confined spaces, and to use a safety harness. Ability to perform moderate moving up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally moving up to 75 lbs. The noise level is moderate to high, and there is exposure to chemicals, fumes, dust, machinery hazards, and adverse outdoor weather conditions. Physical abilities include walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and grasping. Specific abilities involve seeing, hearing, talking, and speaking, as well as the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must possess effective communication skills with the ability to speak, write, and understand English. Must possess the ability to follow sometimes complex oral and written instructions.
