Operate tamping machines or manually roll surfaces to compact earth fills, foundation forms, and finished road materials, according to grade specifications. 6.) Observe grade in order to adjust machine settings and indicate low spots for workers to add material. 7.) Conduct documented pre-shift inspections of equipment for safety and mechanical defects. 8.) Work long, flexible hours as demanded by our customers including nights, weekends, and work outside for extended periods during all seasons of the year. 10.) Align machines, cutter heads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines or ground or position equipment, following hand signals of other workers. 11.) Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members. 12.) Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair equipment, using mechanics' hand tools. Conduct pre-shift inspections and report any concerns or malfunctions to supervisors. 13.) Learn and follow safety regulations. 14.) Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects. 15.) An employee in this class operates heavy equipment to load solid waste into trailers, packing the waste down, leveling the trailer, and covering the waste. Operation of the equipment at the Transfer station, work includes maintaining the work area and managing the storage areas with emphasis on the variety of solid waste materials delivered. Work includes performing preventative maintenance of equipment. Employees perform work in accordance with established safety rules and regulations. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Solid Waste Director and Supervisor and is reviewed in progress and upon completion for adherence to standards. Also monitors customers for compliance of materials and also paying for those loads that should be charged due to operating procedures. Assists other landfill staff as needed in other operations when assistance is required. Cleans all equipment on a routine basis. Uses a water hose each day and a pressure washer one time per month. Checks equipment daily; completes reports on status and reports needed repairs. Maintains all recycling and waste piles. Worker is required to work a varied schedule to include holidays.
