Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As it relates to the work above, conducts preliminary topographical site surveys and calculates grades and profiles. Resurveys projects upon completion of construction for actual construction cost and street plan adherence, notes corrections made and creates record plans when necessary.
Instructs contractors and Inspects public works construction projects, including streets, sewer and water mains; monitors the work in progress of contractors and utilities and ensures that construction work meets specifications and accepted standards; estimates payments due contractors.
Responds to inquiries from the public pertaining to town construction projects; explains construction projects to the general public; provides information concerning projects and assists the general public with particular problems and concerns; assists with over the counter and telephone inquiries.
Attend meetings as Designee of the Engineering Division and/or represent the Town during professional or regulatory workshops or interagency meetings as required.
Performs similar engineering or related work, as required, or as situation dictates.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science Degree in civil engineering; ten years of experience in an engineering design related field and experience in construction inspection, surveying and cost estimating; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements
Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification required. Professional Engineering Licensure preferred or ability to obtain within 2 years.
OSHA 10 Construction Safety and Health Training or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license.
