Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the UW Oshkosh Police Officer serves 10,000+ students, and over 1,000 employees, encompassing 58 buildings on 184 acres. Police Officers exercise full statutory arrest authority and are responsible for the enforcement of state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the protection of life and property, and related protective services for the University community. The standard work hours are 10-hour shift assignments on one of the following shifts: 8:00am-6:00pm, 6:00pm-4:00am, and 10:00pm-8:00am.
The Police Officer is a sworn law enforcement position (State of WI, LESB certified) responsible for providing a full range of law enforcement services: enforcing laws, investigating complaints, investigating incidents which may have an impact on the University, maintaining order, assisting people, identifying criminal activity, apprehending and arresting offenders, identifying the source of problems in the community, and working with the community to resolve issues.
Police Officers are expected to embrace community policing philosophies, engage and partner with the community, analyze data, and problem-solve for the purpose of crime prevention. Officers are also expected to have the ability to conduct complex investigations, take photographs, collect physical evidence, prepare complete written reports of all investigations, and testify to those reports. The Police Officer is the principal agent responsible for carrying out the functions of the University Police Department. B1. Perform vehicle patrol, foot patrol, and other means of patrol.
B2. Provide crowd control duties at mass population events such as sporting events, concerts, protests, and appearances by visiting dignitaries.

B11. Resolve conflict in domestic disturbances, conduct searches for missing persons, and assist with high-risk prisoner escorts.
B12. Respond to critical incidents and establish an incident command system if one is not in place. Respond to critical incident and incident command situations in conformity with department policy.
B13. Respond to incidents that may involve extreme violence and risk, such as active shooter incidents, and be able to effectively utilize specialized weaponry, training, and tactics to bring these situations to a resolution.
B14. Receive and disseminate information by radio, telephone, and computer. Communicate in person with the public. Coordinate communications between units within the Department and external agencies.
B15. Provide armed escort and security for dignitaries, celebrities, and objects of value.
20% C. Criminal Investigations
Perform preliminary and follow-up investigations necessary to solve crimes, identify suspects and victims, apprehend criminals, and document case information.
C1. Enforce State Statute and University Code violations through the apprehension of violators, while preserving the constitutional rights, dignity, and safety of all persons. Physically arrest, issue citations, and incarcerate when appropriate; testify as a court witness.
C2. Identify persons in need of protective custody and place them in the appropriate facility.
C3. Operate computer equipment to conduct inquiries in State and Federal data files.
C4. Prepare complete, timely, concise, accurate, and detailed reports related to activities, incidents, or arrests and other periodic and special reports and correspondence.
C5. Identify and obtain evidence in accordance with the Constitution, state law, and case law. Protect evidence throughout an investigation. Preserve evidence through photography and other collection and processing techniques; secure and store evidence according to department policy.

C8. Conduct on-scene and follow-up investigations involving violations of WI state law, University of WI System rules, accidents, and other investigations as assigned by supervisors; document using appropriate reports and forms.
20% D. Traffic Law Enforcement
Ensure the safe and orderly flow of traffic on all University of Wisconsin roadways; enforce UW System Codes 18.06 and Wisconsin traffic laws regulating motor vehicles and their equipment.
D1. Deter traffic accidents and violations by effective patrol and observations of high traffic areas and areas where accidents have been known to occur. Perform vehicle contacts/traffic stops. Direct traffic during times of high volume pedestrian and or vehicular traffic.
D2. Apprehend traffic law violators while preserving their constitutional rights, dignity, and safety. Issue verbal and written warnings, issue citations, accept bail bond deposits, and incarcerate persons when necessary or appropriate.
D3. Operate speed violation detection devices when available.
D4. Collect observational and physical evidence involving persons operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
D5. Document all traffic stops and use department recommended methods of contact to ensure that all citizens are treated with fairness, dignity, and respect.
D6. Interview drivers, passengers, and witnesses. Collect and properly preserve evidence.
D7. Attend to emergency medical needs of accident victims prior to the arrival of medical personnel.
D8. Prepare narrative and Department of Transportation report forms when required.

4. Demonstrates competence when responding to agitation/violent behavior of an individual requiring verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint.
5. Opens and coordinates processes with incident command during any disaster or incident that has escalated.
6. Assists emergency room with hazardous decontamination systems.
7. Collaborates with multiple disciplines to effectively and efficiently work with others to provide assistance to patients, families, team members, or general public to achieve desired resolution to problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma or GED
* Three years of security experience preferred
* Eligibility to obtain a Wisconsin Concealed Carry License
* American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). Can be obtained during security officer training.

Position Summary-
Public Safety Officer (PSO) is a uniform position responsible for providing support to Public Safety operations at CW facilities. Duties may include, but limited to, any or all of the following. Patrols assigned areas of facilities and grounds and responds to emergent situations and calls for service. Position Requirements-
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification

Currently certified or ability to successfully complete department training in Defensive Tactics for Security (DTS) within 3 months of hire or promotion.

Position Summary:
Monitors parking areas, issuing citations for parking violations. Collects data on campus parking usage and reports maintenance and safety concerns found on campus. Provides directions and education about parking with customers
Qualifications
Required:
