A Police Officer assigned to Patrol operates under the direct supervision of the Patrol Commander and Patrol Sergeant. The Patrol Officer is sworn to enforce all laws and ordinances for which the Department is responsible; to protect the lives and property of all persons; and to maintain peace and order within the Village of Mundelein. When properly required to do so the Patrol Officer will provide any service that is necessary for the furtherance of the Department's mission and objectives.

Work Schedule
Normally, police officers work an average of eighty hours per two-week period, which amounts to 2,080 hours annually. Currently, the patrol division works 12-hour shifts, which are re-bid on an annual basis.

Job Responsibilities:
Monitor the safety and security of the students in the building and on campus
Implements school safety and security activities
Ensures that school policies and procedures are followed
Assists with the monitoring of student movement and behavior throughout the school day
Assists with the control of disruptive students and teams with appropriate school personnel about student behavior and behavior related issues
Escorts and assists students to assigned areas
Works with first responders in regard to security and safety

Requirements:
Military service in an occupational specialty related to law enforcement such as military police, combat arms, or special forces

Proven experience as a security officer or guard
40 Hour state certification and PERC Card
Firearm's Owners Identification Card required (FOID)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This work involves supervising the behavior of students outside the classroom, assisting the teachers with immediate disciplinary problems in the classroom, promoting the well-being and safety of students, and providing assistance and direction to campus visitors. There is considerable contact with students, staff, parents and the general public. Must be tactful, use fairness and independent judgment when dealing with a variety of problems and emergency situations experienced by students and visitors.
