Job Description
Job duties includes:
* Conducts evaluations of clients by performing individual histories, assessments, and diagnostic evaluations determining the need for medication(s) and other diagnostic investigations; determines the most appropriate intervention, treatment, or procedure.
* Develops treatment plans; participates in case conferences and consults with physicians, clinicians, other professional staff, clients, and families as necessary and coordinates with other service providers in developing, monitoring, and adjusting a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan.
* Prescribes medication under protocol; administers approved treatment and medication as directed; orders and/or performs laboratory and screening tests in accordance with approved protocols. Provides and evaluates patient care according to protocols and quality assurance criteria; Reviews and prepares protocols for approval by physician staff.
* Performs crisis intervention as required; assists clinical staff in mitigating crisis situations; recommends and administers medication to patients in crisis situations. Evaluates patients for voluntary and involuntary commitment; signs commitment for clients requiring hospitalization.
* Provides ongoing review, assessment, and medical management of patients; performs regular and emergent follow-up assessments; supervises assessments and medication reviews by nursing staff, as appropriate; educates the patient and /or parent/guardian about the identified illness, potential benefits/risks of recommended and alternative treatment modalities, and prognosis; monitors outcomes, needs for revision of diagnosis and/or medication regime and works with other staff to coordinate services.
* Completes documentation for all direct services provided; prepares other documentation and reviews, approves, revises, and provides signatory responsibility for various client related documents prepared by other staff. Provides consultation to non-medical and interdisciplinary professional staff, as necessary, concerning patients for whom the practitioner carries responsibility; provides consultation regarding patients with complex or unique needs; provides professional education and training to other staff.
Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
Master's degree in Nursing or relevant medical field and licensure in the State of Kansas as a Nurse Practitioner (APRN); valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; and one year experience prescribing in an outpatient clinic, in a Community Mental Health setting, or relevant experience are required.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
