Position Snapshot/A Day in the Life: The Network/Systems Specialist works with the Innovation and Technology Department's Infrastructure team supporting the network, communications, systems, and security infrastructure for the City of Fontana. This role is the point person for all things communications, which includes the phone system and cellular services. This includes troubleshooting the on-premises Mitel phone system, troubleshooting cellular coverage and performance issues, and interacting with telecommunications providers. Other duties include working with the infrastructure team in maintaining the City's infrastructure. This includes server patching, managing our server backups, replacing failed network and server hardware, and other maintenance tasks that must be performed outside normal working hours. Eventually, this position will work an offset shift of 1:00 pm - 12:00 am. Under general direction from the IT Infrastructure Manager and coordination with the IT Infrastructure team, the position performs server, workstation, and network preventive maintenance; assists in automating system processes to the fullest extent possible; reviews system logs; performs related duties as required. Additionally, incumbents in this position will serve as backup to senior positions in the infrastructure team.
