MEETINGS:THE ASSOCIATION OFFERS THE AGGREGATES INDUSTRY AN ARRAY OF OPPORTUNITIES TO MEET FOR EDUCATION, SHARE BEST PRACTICES, HEAR FROM INDUSTRY EXPERTS, NETWORK, AND PARTICIPATE IN GOVERNANCE ACTIVITIES. THE 2019 AGG1 ACADEMY & EXPO AND NSSGA ANNUAL CONVENTION, NSSGA'S PRIMARY EDUCATIONAL, GOVERNANCE AND NETWORKING EVENTS, WERE HELD IN MARCH IN INDIANAPOLIS. THE 2019 WORLD OF ASPHALT SHOW & CONFERENCE WAS ALSO CO-LOCATED WITH NSSGA'S EVENTS, PROVIDING A ONE-STOP-SHOP FOR THE CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS INDUSTRY.ANNUAL CONVENTION ATTENDANCE WAS STRONG, WITH NEARLY 600 INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS IN ATTENDANCE. CONVENTION ATTENDEES TOOK PART IN COMMITTEE MEETINGS, NETWORKING RECEPTIONS, GENERAL SESSIONS AND TOURS. TWO KEYNOTE SPEAKERS, RICH KARLGAARD AND BYRON REESE OFFERED LEADERSHIP INSIGHTS AND POWERFUL MESSAGES ABOUT WORKFORCE CULTURE.THE AGG1 ACADEMY & EXPO WAS THE LARGEST YET IN THE EVENT'S HISTORY, WITH OVER 55,000 SQUARE FEET OF EXHIBIT SPACE OVER 60 EDUCATION SESSIONS.THE 2019 YOUNG LEADERS ANNUAL MEETING TOOK PLACE APRIL 28-MAY 1, IN HILTON HEAD, SOUTH CAROLINA. THE EAST COAST LOCATION AND STRONG SUPPORT OF THIS PROGRAM FROM MEMBERSHIP WERE KEY COMPONENTS FOR THIS EVENT TO GROW OVER 15% FROM 2018.306 YOUNG LEADERS AND THEIR GUESTS ATTENDED. THE YOUNG LEADERS STEERING COMMITTEE MADE SEVERAL ENHANCEMENTS TO THE PROGRAM TO IMPROVE NETWORKING AND TEAMBUILDING. THE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT WAS COMBINED WITH A FACILITATED TEAMBUILDING ACTIVITY TO HELP BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WHILE WORKING TOWARD A COMMON GOAL. THE KEYNOTE SPEAKERS THIS YEAR WERE AGGREGATES INDUSTRY LEADERS:- BOB WELDON, NSSGA CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD, WELDON MATERIALS- MICAH ZELTWANGER, SUPERIOR INDUSTRIES- DAN GRANT, MARTIN MARIETTA- MIKE SARAILLE, ECHELON FRONT- TOM HILL, SUMMIT MATERIALS- ANNE CRAMER, CASPER STOLLE QUARRY & CONTRACTING CO., INC.THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE & LEADERSHIP SUMMIT TOOK PLACE AT THE HYATT REGENCY LOST PINES IN AUSTIN, TEXAS, JUNE 23-26. THIS THREE-DAY MEETING OF 90 ATTENDEES OF WHICH 60 WERE EXECUTIVES INCLUDED BREAKOUT SESSIONS FEATURING LEADING INDUSTRY SPEAKERS WHILE COVERING THE 3 YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN.NSSGA'S SECOND LEGISLATIVE & POLICY FORUM TOOK PLACE NOVEMBER 18-20 AT THE HYATT REGENCY WASHINGTON ON CAPITOL HILL. OVER 250 AGGREGATES INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS TOOK PART IN THIS YEAR'S EVENT, WHICH CONSISTED OF COMMITTEE MEETINGS, EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS AND A DAY ON CAPITOL HILL. TO PREPARE FOR THEIR CONGRESSIONAL VISITS, ATTENDEES HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND GENERALSESSIONS AND BREAKOUT SESSIONS THAT EDUCATED ON NSSGA'S MOST IMPORTANT ADVOCACY ISSUES. SPEAKERS INCLUDED:- SEN. TOM CARPER- SEN. JOHN BARRASSO- REP. STENY HOYER- KEVIN MCLAUGHLIN, NRSC- LUCINDA GUINN, DCCC- DAVID ZATEZALO, ASST. SECRETARY MINE SAFETY AND HEALTH- DAVID WASSERMAN, U.S. HOUSE EDITORSIX BREAKOUT SESSIONS COVERED SCIENCE, HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY, AN ELECTION WATCH, ZONING ISSUES AND MORE. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE EVENT WAS "HILL DAY," IN WHICH THE ASSOCIATION SECURED OVER 175 APPOINTMENTS FOR PARTICIPANTS TO MEET WITH THEIR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF AGGREGATES.
