About the Role
The Assistant Digital Archivist will play a key role at Othram by assisting in converting analog and physical media into structured, accessible digital assets.
What You Get to Do Every Day
Operate and maintain scanning hardware, audio/video digitization equipment, and related software to digitize various media formats.
Conduct inventory photography and damage assessments for archival materials.
Carefully disassemble and reassemble binders and other bound documents of evidence for digitization.
Perform quality control on digitized documents, including fixing labels and ensuring accurate metadata tagging.
Review, index, and scan case files to create structured digital records.
What You Bring to the Role
Required Competencies and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in History, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Museum Studies, or related field. Relevant experience in document management, library, or archival roles may substitute for education.
Work or volunteer experience in public, academic, school, or business libraries.
Experience in a records-based setting within a business, library, museum, or archival environment.

We are seeking a Senior Digital Archivist this position is located on Marine Base Quantico, and will require daily on-site support. The Senior Archivist will meet high-level business needs for management of Federal records (hard copy, electronic, and hybrid) including capture, maintenance and use, disposal, transfer, metadata, and reporting. Support should comply with the Federal Electronic Records Management Modernization Initiative (FERMI), National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) efforts to standardize records functions, policies and procedures towards compliance with Federal mandates to manage all permanent records in a digital format and achieve organizational program objectives.
The Senior Archivist will work with the Digitization Team, participate in organizational assessments, offer expert advice, and assist in the management and digitization of archival collections. Activities will include participating in beta testing, process analysis, creating reports, and documenting any proposed development or implementation efforts. Tasks will focus on identifying, collecting, ingesting, organizing, accessing, and preserving the administrative, descriptive, and structural metadata related to the digitization of historic materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Requirements of this role include, but are not limited to:
Use the collections management system to access and process digitized files stored on local and/or cloud servers, as well as SharePoint site collections.
Coordinate with Archives staff to write and maintain technical documentation on digitization workflows, automation of regular processes, digital file management, digital ingest from SharePoint site collections and local network locations.
Perform post-processing and quality control tasks on digitized and born-digital material, which may include renaming, rotating, straightening, cropping, stitching, redacting, color-correcting, and generating derivative files.
Utilize scanner software and Adobe suite; identify candidates for re-scan.
Create file system inventories, eliminate duplicate material, rename files, migrate files to standard preservation and access formats, identify preservation or content risks, and verify fixity by automated and manual methods on legacy digital materials.
Provide written recommendations for leveraging the content management system's underutilized features such as geo-locations, web client, web and XML publishing, and record requests; test, evaluate, and submit recommendations for implementation of business processes in these areas.
Evaluate the utilization of automatic information technology, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) to execute the full range of archival functions such as metadata description on digitized archival material.
Serve as a member of IT liaison team between Archives and the Network Administrator regarding the creation and maintenance of digitization projects, Content Manager digital stores, the development of dark archives and related data storage solutions.
Meet regularly with archival staff, perform quality control checks on databases and enact measures to maintain the database integrity in terms of metadata accuracy and digital asset management, development of work plans for correcting and cleaning of metadata entry and digital asset errors as necessary.
Monitor digital obsolescence due to media and/or file format.
Required Skills and Experience:
Must be a U.S. citizen.
5+ years of experience working in archives, records management, or a similar field.
5+ years of experience managing multiple projects, handling digital and physical archives, including preservation, arrangement, and description of collections.
Experience with historical records, government documents or corporate archives.
Strong understanding of archival theory and practices, including cataloging, maintenance, and archival category standards.
Proficiency in archival software, Adobe, M365/SharePoint, and content management systems.
Experience designing, documenting, and implementing technical solutions, and making recommendations on system implementation, analysis, and design.
Knowledge of metadata standards and records management practices.
Familiarity with digital preservation techniques and technologies, including digitization of physical collections.
Understanding of database management and the use of tools for cataloging and indexing collections.
Knowledge of Federal records retention policies, NARA standards and protocols for managing records electronically and deploying electronic records management requirements; ability to read, interpret, and apply Federal policy, directives and regulations.
Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage archival collections and oversee the work of junior archivists or assistants.

Reporting to the Chief Curator, the Curator/Assistant Curator is a key member of a small team who works closely alongside colleagues across departments in SJMA's dynamic and collaborative environment. In addition to generating original exhibitions (spanning group, thematic, and solo formats), programs and publications, the Curator/Assistant Curator will envision projects that embrace different formats, platforms, perspectives, and disciplines that expand traditional museum-going experiences, and invite new audiences. The Curator/Assistant Curator manages all aspects of curatorial project development including but not limited to ideation, exhibition research, writing, exhibition checklists, loan requests, publications, budgets, and administrative duties. They will work closely with the Curatorial team on acquisitions and stewardship of the growing permanent collection. This position represents SJMA within the wider community and contributes to SJMA's Development, Marketing & Communications, Education, and Curatorial projects/events as determined by the Curatorial Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide SJMA with curatorial expertise within a collaborative and mission-focused environment that prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Actively engage in original research and development of curatorial projects that are not limited to but include a focus on new media, emergent artistic and cultural practices, bring to light overlooked artists and ideas, and explore issues that contextualize and resonate with our local audiences
Produce essays, exhibition checklists, develop audience-facing didactics, gallery tours, correspondence, manage publications, and other interpretive materials.
Work collaboratively across teams, including working closely with Development on fundraising, program ideation in tandem with Education; and working with Marketing on outreach initiatives including press releases, and social media.
Manage exhibitions workflow and any related programs and publications. Duties include management of budgeting with Chief Curator, maintenance of timelines, and miscellaneous administrative responsibilities. Communicate and collaborate across departments as exhibitions develop to maintain flow of communication and resource sharing.
Act as curator in charge of traveling exhibitions, handling all aspects related to this function.
Work collaboratively with curatorial team on strategic acquisitions for growing permanent collection. Actively contribute to collection strategies and stewardship discussions.
Donor cultivation and participation in fundraising with development department
Represent SJMA within the Museum and the art community; attend SJMA Development and Curatorial events and attend outside art openings, programs, conferences, lectures, and meetings. Actively visit graduate departments, galleries, and nonprofit arts organizations. Participate in local and global art communities, and present new ideas from the field to the curatorial team.

Position Summary:
The Curator of Living Collections is responsible for managing the Garden's living collections and documentation. This position will coordinate and implement plant acquisition, accessioning and deaccessioning activities in alignment with the HBG Living Collections Plan and the Plant Science and Conservation strategy of Huntsville Botanical Garden. When necessary, this position is responsible for communicating with a wide variety of audiences including volunteers, the public, federal, state, local, and tribal agencies and elected officials; nongovernmental organizations and interest groups; industry; public land users; and other stakeholders.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The curator is responsible for the management and development of all plant collections at HBG, including living collections on site and reporting on distributed collections. Ensuring the taxa held in collections are varied, appropriate to the region, genetically diverse, and that associated documentation is maintained using industry best practices to ensure utility for research applications. Co-leads research initiatives at HBG.
Supervises the Plant Recorder and GIS Specialist to ensure accurate and timely mapping of accessioned material and relevant spatial data to maintain the Garden's geodatabase. Supervises the Conservation Horticulturist in the strategy and management of the safeguarding collections and growing plants for collections.
Periodically review curatorial documentation and workflow methods and Living Collections Management & Policy documents, updating HBG manuals, and training staff and volunteers on appropriate recordkeeping processes and responsibilities.
Responsible for seeking grant opportunities to bring in contributed revenue resources to support the work of the department and organization.
Unique plant collections may be obtained through plant expeditions or by exchanges with other botanical institutions and collectors. Field collecting is encouraged, and the curator must have travel flexibility. Tracking and managing loans of specimens to and from institutions are handled in a professional manner.
Provide leadership in the planning of new gardens, displays and other plantings, including developing themes and interpretation. Co-lead projects that affect plant collections including plant selection, placement, maintenance, and removals for the Greenhouses and Huntsville Botanical Garden and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in organismal plant sciences is required, with emphasis on both botany and horticulture or a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 3+ years of relevant experience in data collection and analysis, plant collections record keeping, or curation. Computer skills in database management, word processing, and grounds collections management through computer-aided programs are required.
Success Factors:
Strong interest in and significant knowledge of native and well-adapted plants in southeastern North America and issues related to botany, arboriculture, conservation horticulture, urban forestry, and ecology.
