RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach the course curriculum as outlined in the Texas Curriculum for Nurse Aides in Long-Term Care Facilities manual; Ensure students fill out the daily sign in record as produced by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS); Keep accurate and sufficient records of student grades and attendance; Instruct and observe all clinical skills during lab hours; Oversee no more than ten students at a time in a classroom and a clinical setting; Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective learning; Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical resources of the teaching site, and consistent with student needs/capabilities; Encourage students to meet acceptable performance standards as defined in course syllabi and by the state guidelines; Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, patients, equipment, materials, and facilities; Work to establish and maintain an open line of communication with director and students concerning progress in class; Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with college staff and with clinical site staff; Assist CNA Director with DADS Prometric paperwork and scheduling of testing for students. The Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor must be a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Vocational Nurse; Must have one year experience in a long-term care facility in the past ten years; Must be willing to work weekends occasionally for clinical's.
