JOB SUMMARY
This position is primarily responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing metal structures and components in accordance with blueprints and specifications. Duties include cutting, fitting, and welding metal parts, inspecting for quality, and coordinating with welders and other trades to ensure the structural integrity of the project.
PAY RANGE
*Pay is determined by Test Classification Results

WORK SCHEDULE
Regular attendance and punctuality are required of all employees.
Varies by Department and/or Location.
Day Shift: 6:00am - 3:30pm
Night Shift: 3:30pm - 12:00am (Midnight)
Overtime and/or Weekend Availability required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities are to perform structural fitting functions with following objectives:
Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned.
Work safe and maintain a safe working environment.
Notify foreman or supervisor of any safety and/or structural issues as warranted.
Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated structural steel plate according to customer specifications and direction from Foreman/Supervisor.
Required to move parts into position, manually, by hoist or crane, and align parts, using jacks, etc.
May be required to remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and/or cutting torch, as well as give directions to the welder to build up low spots or short pieces.
May, at times, be required to tack weld, as necessary.
Consults with foreman or supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair and/or installation
Attend safety meetings as required
Maintain a safe working environment
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Must have or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card.
Minimum one year experience as a structural fitter (shipyard experience preferred, but not required)
Be able to perform simple paper work as required for filling out forms and logs.
Must have good judgment skills and work initiative, taking good directions from Supervisor/Manager.
Understanding of company Quality, Environmental & Safety manual and procedures described therein.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Must have good communication skills and leadership ability, English & Spanish (Bi-lingual required).
PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
Climbing stairs, and/or vertical ladders of varying heights.
Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
Lifting objects of minimum of 10lbs, with maximum single-person lift limit of 50lbs, with frequent lifting and carrying.
Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
Visually inspecting equipment and verifying information, often in small print.
Applying sideways/upward/downward pressure to tighten and loosen hardware.

Fabricates equipment by Fitting and welding various aluminum thicknesses.
Knowledge and experience fabricating different material types and grades, i.e.,carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum (6061 / 5052, etc.,).
Basic knowledge and understanding of welding procedure specifications (WPS).
Ability to understand engineering drawings and written work instructions, as well as comprehend the design intent conveyed through those documents.
Ability to read and operate a tape measure, square, and angle finder.
Ability to figure angle/pitch from rise & run; basic understanding of angles.
Knowledge of common electric / pneumatic power tools and their safe operation:

Familiarize and understand all FlexDecks employment policies such as work hours/days, quality standards, drug screening, safety guidelines, and all policies outlining employee behavior at FlexDecks facility.
Familiarize, understand, and use all standard operating procedures determined by FlexDecks and equipment manufacturers in relation to use of fabrication equipment.
Ensure that product standards, both quality and quantity are met.
Apply all safety measures when working in the shop and with machines/power tools.
Maintain a positive attitude and further develop and maintain a cohesive team-oriented work environment with all employees, vendors, and customers, and support the company in all decisions.
May be asked by management to perform other tasks beyond those listed.
Requirements
Certification(s): Documented welding certifications for GTAW/GTAW-2G
Experience: Two plus (2+) years in GMAW & GTAW, i.e. fitting / structural welding experience. Specifically the fabrication of aluminum wrought alloys of various thickness and material grades
Must have reliable transportation to and from work
Willing to undergo drug and background screens
Authorize to work in the U.S.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Performance of duties for this job requires work in an open machine & fabrication shop production area. Will work with and around moving machinery, including but not limited to forklifts and over-head cranes. Will be exposed to dirt/dust, fumes/odors. Noise levels range from moderate to loud but tolerable.
Position requires work in temperatures, as well as humidity, that fluctuate in accordance with the season. Must be able to work in the elements and inclement weather conditions.
Appropriate Personal Protection Equipment is required in all fabrication shop areas including but not limited to Hearing, Eye Protection, Hard Hat and Safety Shoes.
Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time as well as, sit, kneel, crouch, stoop & crawl. Walking for long distances & ascend/descend stairs is required within the office and shop areas.
This position requires turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, waist, legs, wrists, fingers, as well as functional hearing, vision, and voice (English).
This position also requires ability to safely lift and handle up to 50-80 lbs.

JOB DETAILS Base pay starts at $21 per hour Day Shift: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Fitter/Welder must be competent in welding and fitting skills which encompass all special welding certifications for pipe, tube, CJP scenarios etc. Must be able to fit up all types of rigid frame columns, rafters, and beam canopies according to specifications.
* Knows and understands all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and about a manufacturing environment.
* Must be able to achieve and maintain AWS and CWB certifications.
* Check work assignments and interprets blueprints and/or sketches to determine parts required.
* Responsible for measuring, marking, counting, and locating components on/in an assembly. Advises Team Leader of any discrepancies in and/or shortages of required parts.
* Positions sub-assemblies on parts using clamping devices and material handling equipment as required.
* Uses necessary tools, measuring devices, templates to join up parts in accordance with blueprints and specifications maintaining allowable tolerances. Uses welding, flame cutting, flame-heating, arc gouging, or mechanical equipment to tack and/or weld components in place. Ability to align parts, and to bevel or cut flanges, webs, stiffeners as required.
* Install metal tags to identify parts and uses assigned personal identification stamp in designated area when operation is completed.
* Responsible for keeping numerical and alphabetical sequences correct.
* Maintains continuous improvement practices in work area.
* May be assigned other projects or duties as designated by Team Leader
Qualifications
* High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
* A minimum of one (1) year experience welding and fitting in a production environment or valid welding certification
* Ability to read blueprints and drawings
* Ability to obtain and maintain CWB and AWS welding certification in accordance with Cornerstone Building Brands welding procedures
* Experience with forklift and/or overhead crane operation a plus
* Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist

This is a position with the potential overtime. The shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours long depending on work orders for the day and season of the year.
