The Armed Services YMCA is looking for some enthusiastic individuals to work in our Operation Hero after-school program. This program addresses life situations and issues faced by military children. Mentors work with children in grades second to fifth at their assigned Fort Campbell elementary school. Mentors will work the school year, receiving 13 to 15 hours weekly.
Weekly Schedule: Monday through Thursday from 3 pm to 5:30 pm.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for supervising and implementing the Operation Hero program for an assigned group of school-age children.
Must commit to complete the session from October until May.
Maintain an organized, safe and clean environment.
Complete all required documentation, including but not limited to attendance reports, weekly reports, supply requests, accident/incident reports, and behavior log reports.
Respond to all suggestions/complaints in writing within 48 hours of receipt.
Attend all mandatory staff meetings.
Participate in mentor/student team-building activities while adding creativity to the students
Become familiar with the student's academic and personal needs.
Maintain consistent communication with the Operation Hero Lead regarding students' progress or problems.
Empower students to resolve issues and develop plans for redirection
Provide a model for a healthy, trusting relationship through clear communication.
Encourage students to find ways to use their talents, gifts, and strengths.
Assist students with their homework and challenge their minds through the activities provided in the lesson plans.
Training/Orientation/Background Screening
Mentors must attend orientation and training at the Fort Campbell Armed Services YMCA
Mentors are required to complete YMCA and Fort Campbell Background Screenings
**Must have experience in facilitating children's activities.

You must be a current UK student to apply for this position. This position is located off-campus with a local Lexington employer and is not affiliated with UK. This position is to take our 21 year old son with down syndrome to activities in the community that coincide with his goals of socializing, grocery shopping, managing finances to pay for meals or activities such as movies and concerts, physical exercise at the YMCA, hikes, or at dances, going to therapy appointments, doing exercises to manage time and money, and be safe when parents may be away. This young man is a black belt in taekwondo, reads music and plays piano, takes swing dance lessons, works out at the Y, is very involved in his church, loves animals, music, video games, food, and dancing. His communication skills are limited but his goals are to improve his education, make more money than he currently does working a couple days a week at his cafe job, and get married. He's a lot of fun to hang out with and we are seeking someone who will support his interests and enjoy being with him.
The job would also include assisting with cooking skills and meal planning at home and other skills to become more independent at home. He has a CLS worker who takes him to youth group on Wednesday nights, but he may need a substitute on Wednesdays if the CLS worker is busy.

* The role involves active participation in sports, exercise classes, and dancing, so candidates should be comfortable engaging in physical activities.
* Must be comfortable accompanying him to his regular activities, including social and faith-based gatherings

JOB SUMMARY:
STEM Momentum is a four-week residential program in which high school students take up to two college courses while living on campus. Classes start on Monday, June 2, 2025, and are offered from Monday to Friday each week. During the week, classes are held in the morning and early afternoon, and time is set aside for lunch. During the evening, the Office of Dual Credit staff and Summer Dual Credit Residential Mentors will organize and lead activities and events for the students. A Mentor provides leadership and guidance for a group of students, ensuring a quality experience for students. A Mentor creates positive, professional relationships with students. Under the direction of the Office of Dual Credit, the Mentor will be responsible for assisting with the planning, development, and implementation of program activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Work cooperatively with other Summer Dual Credit Residential Mentors to ensure students are safe while maintaining adequate health and hygiene measures
Demonstrate and encourage skills such as executive functioning, self-advocacy, social relationship building, and independent living
Responsible for managing a group of high school students
Keep the safety of students in mind at all times; students are never to be left unattended
Oversee students in residence, at activities, on excursions, and during meal times
Ensure students are prepared and on time for classes and activities
Set a good example in promptness, manners, language, appearance, health, and care for the facilities
Create and promote group unity by making everyone feel a part of the group
Generate and foster student enthusiasm for classes, activities, and other special events

Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) is hiring full-time positions to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to prime age employment gap (PAEG) workers under its Phase II application to the EDA Recompete Pilot Program. This is a grant-funded position serving 12 SOAR counties: Bell, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Perry, and Pike. Priority will be given to applicants residing in or within close proximity to any of these 12 counties.
These positions will report to the Peer Mentor Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct one-on-one mentoring sessions with PAEG clients seeking to re-enter the workforce, providing emotional support, encouragement, and guidance throughout their journey.
Assist individuals in identifying their skills, strengths, and interests, and help them explore potential career paths and job opportunities.
Offer practical advice and assistance with resume writing, job searching, networking, and interview preparation.
Provide resources and referrals to community organizations, training programs, and other support services as needed.
Foster a supportive and non-judgmental environment where individuals feel comfortable discussing their challenges and aspirations.
Monitor progress and track outcomes to ensure that PAEG workers are making meaningful strides towards their employment goals.
Collaborate with other project team members including close coordination with staff from the Eastern Kentucky Workforce Training and Support Network (WTSN)
Stay informed about current trends and best practices in workforce development, peer mentoring, and related fields.
