Mental Health Therapist The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing clinically necessary mental health services to identified children and their families at designated schools or community settings. The Mental Health Therapist will work as part of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) and will report to the program manager. The Mental Health Therapist needs to be flexible, independent and able to develop strong relationships with faculty, administration and with community partners (including resources in their designated school area). This position will be focusing on more high school aged clients. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Promote the mission, values and vision of the Charter School System. Ensure that all services comply with funding and Charter School regulations. Provide therapeutic services, which can include individual, family, dyadic, and/or group therapy to children and families in adherence with the treatment plan. Provide crisis intervention and support for children and families, as needed. Work as part of school-based teams at designated schools. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology or related human service. Additional fields of study may include mental health counseling, or marriage & family therapy (or similar) from an accredited university or college in the field of counseling, social work, psychology or related human service. Independently licensed to practice therapy in the state of Florida, including Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). ALL licenses/certifications must be active and clear . At least one year of experience working with children with serious emotional disturbances, trauma, and abuse/neglect issues. Experience utilizing behavior, dyadic, and cognitive behavioral therapies with children and their caregivers. Ability to engage in systemic and solution-focused approaches to treatment.

Department Center for Prevention and Early Intervention Policy Responsibilities * Conducts therapeutic intervention sessions with the teen mother, father, and child utilizing an Infant Mental Health framework within the home setting including dyadic therapy, developmental guidance, addressing issues of violence/abuse/trauma, and supporting the responsiveness of the young parent and their child. Encourages the teen in developing life skills by helping them to establish goals, maintain healthy relationships, use community services, and reduce court-involvement. * Provides assessments to teen and baby during intake, exit from the program, and other data points using professional observation and standardized instruments. Facilitates referrals to community agencies for teen parents and their children related to complex needs to include trauma-related services, Part C/Early Intervention Early Steps, and mandatory reporting to the abuse registry as required by law. * Works collaboratively with team members through on-going communication, coordination of services, and weekly team meetings. Participates in reflective supervision to discuss cases and plan intervention strategies based on the Minding the Baby model. Participates in the Young Parents Project Fatherhood Initiative to include young fathers as project participants. * Completes written documentation in a timely manner with a focus on the parent/child relationship and the requirements of program funders. Compiles data and reports about project activities. Uses expertise in reporting information utilizing an Infant Mental Health framework. * Attends court hearings as needed and responds to requests for updates about project participation, risk and protective factors, parental responsiveness to the young child, and trauma-related issues. * Attends recommended trainings to increase knowledge, skills, and abilities. Shares lessons learned from experience in working with teen parents and children with others in the field. The CARE Center at Barry University is currently seeking two part time Independent Licensed Mental Health Counselors for a temporary grant-funded assignment. The Licensed Mental Health Counselor is a funded position through The Children's Trust grant. The Health Promotion and Testing Counselor is responsible for promoting health screenings and agency services as well as providing Testing, Counseling and Treatment Access to clients particularly those at high risk for HIV, STI infections and other serious health conditions. Qualificatons & Requirements Master's degree from an accredited university or college with a major in the field of counseling, social work, psychology, or a related human services field. Current Florida Registern Internship number is required. One year professional experience providing services to youth with behavioral health disorder preferred, internship experience applies to requirement, two years preferred. Travel throughout the service area to best meet client needs, including homes and schools. *Mileage reimbursement. Participate in rotating on-call schedule. Must successfully complete all criminal background checks annually.
