The Medical Assistant role provides clinical and administrative support for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.
Responsibilities:
Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by the Providers according to policy and procedure
Collects data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients, including discharge plans, under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens in accordance with policy and procedure
Communicates patient findings and pertinent information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse utilizing appropriate communication/documentation processes
Accurate and timely documentation of care within EPIC system
Performs point-of-service activities such as appointment scheduling, visit preparation, co-payment collection and patient tracking as needed
Performs clinical duties that are department specific such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and any other procedures
Performs routine task and general office duties such as faxing, copying, filing, etc. as needed
Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms
Develops and maintains positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
Follows safety policies and procedures in the delivery of care to assure a safe environment for patients, families, and other staff members

Essential Functions

Assists with autoclave procedures and quality controls
Complete clerical functions as directed such as: prior authorizations, schedule new and follow up appointments, answer phones, scanning documents into the EMR.
Travel to other office locations may be necessary

About You
Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Medical Assistant, preferably in Primary Care. May vary based on clinic needs
Graduation from a formal Medical Assistant program or other related program
National or state-specific MA certification or registration is strongly preferred. MA certification or registration is required for employment in States where certification/registration is required.
CPR/BLS certification required at time of start date
Phlebotomy experience is preferred

The Medical Assistant abides by the company's specified boundaries of duty and follows and implements the rules and regulations set forth by the standards of practice as applicable. The Medical Assistant performs only those acts, functions or tasks that the employee is qualified, trained, knowledgeable and/or skilled to perform, per the direct order and supervision of the Provider on duty as allowable by the Provider's delegation authority. The Medical Assistant accepts responsibility for individual actions and continued competence. The employee will complete all competency and proficiency training required by company policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Maintains appropriate clinical standards. Follows the policy and procedures as written in the Company Policy and Procedure Manual.
Recognizes the patient's individual rights and cultural diversity; aid the patients in their right to be informed and to participate in making decisions in all aspects of their medical care and treatment.
Administers appropriate high-quality patient-focused health care.
Patient care functions may include triage/check-in assessment and discharge, CLIA waived point of care testing, medication administration per direct order and supervision of the provider, wound care, splinting application and other treatments ordered by the provider.
Medical Assistants are permitted to perform the duty of peripheral venipuncture per the direct order and supervision of the provider on duty under specific state legislation. Some states require the medical assistant to hold a phlebotomy certificate prior to performing peripheral venipuncture.
Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient as prescribed by physician, including patient and family instruction; ensures that all aspects of care have respect for personal values and beliefs and are focused on the individual needs of each patient.
Maintains all clinical documentation, including quality control and compliance logs required by company policy and applicable regulatory agencies.
Accurately, efficiently, and completely document all clinical patient care data.
Utilizes all equipment, supplies, facilities, and resources of the Company in a prudent and efficient manner.
Assists nurse and provider on duty at all times during a shift, including, but not limited to, the unpacking of supplies and maintaining the general aesthetics of the clinic. Cleans instruments and equipment per company guidelines, maintains stock in all exam rooms before, during, and after each shift. Assists in turning over exam rooms, procedure rooms, and treatment rooms immediately after a patient is discharged from that room and assisting non-ambulatory patients to and from the building as well as other duties as assigned.
Participates in department quality improvement activities, staff educational programs, attends departmental meetings, and demonstrates and maintains clinical competency in the delivery of patient care services in accordance with Company guidelines.
Other duties as needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Medical Assistant diploma or nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification. Basic Life Support is required.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned that may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patient as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screening per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families and answering calls, and providing pertinent information.
Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering sorting, storing supplies, and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes.
Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities that vary according to state law, which may include medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving; checking vital signs; physical examination preparations; clinical pharmacology; drug administrations through various routes including injections.

Occasional to moderate travel required.
Other duties or special projects as assigned.
Successful candidates must possess a high school diploma and current documentation of a Medical Assistant program. Minimum one year of recent experience working in a facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.
