POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Coding Specialist is primarily responsible for assigning diagnosis (ICD-10), CPT procedure codes to hospital and clinic medical records as well as professional charging for ER/UC and Clinic encounters utilizing facility and payer guidelines. This position will also resolve Claim Edits and work with billing to resolve all insurance denials related to coding and charging. This role must have a strong understanding of payer policies, Local Coverage Determinations (LCD), and National Coverage Determinations (NCD) for successful claim submissions. This position serves as a coding resource for all hospital departments and communicates regularly with Business Services and Registration departments to ensure claims are submitted and reimbursed promptly and accurately. Utilize 3M encoder, grouper software, and other coding resources to determine the appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and/or HCPCS including specialty specific codes
and Evaluation and Management (E&M) codes.
Maintain an understanding and apply knowledge of National Correct Coding Initiatives (NCCI), Local Coverage Documents and National Coverage Documents (LCD/NCD) directives.
Maintain an understanding and apply knowledge of Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs), and applicable regulatory requirements as well as payer guidelines to select appropriate codes and modifiers.
Must have a solid understanding of insurance policies and procedures to ensure accurate billing and coding and able to navigate insurance company portals to access the necessary information.

Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.

The Transfer Credit Processing Specialist supports the flow of transfer credit documents through the review, entry, and audit of transfer credits, while maintaining data integrity and process efficiency. Using existing software and document managing systems, this person reviews transfer credit materials prior to their evaluation and entry and provides quality assurance by auditing entered transfer credit coursework. This individual will also enter and maintain transfer equivalency rules within the student information system and ancillary software systems. A strong working knowledge of database systems and workflow processes is needed. Careful attention to detail in reviewing transcripts and other documents is required, as is the ability to perform accurate work within expected processing times while exhibiting excellent customer service to students and campus constituents.
The incumbent may have the option to perform these duties in a mostly remote work environment, only being required to come to campus for occasional on-campus obligations.
The targeted annual salary range is $40,000-$43,000. Actual rate at time of hire will be determined by the finalist's experience, education, training, internal/external pay equity, and other factors.

Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree or commensurate combination of training and experience as a professional in a business setting

* Demonstrated experience in advancing success for students historically underrepresented in education (i.e., Pell, First Generation, McNair, etc)
* Demonstrated skill in the use of computers and software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, etc) including email programs
Preferred Qualifications
* Prior customer service-related experience or demonstrated ability to provide customer service or student customer service experience
* Demonstrated experience with PeopleSoft or another similar integrated data management system
* Demonstrated ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and research issues related to student records, along with a customer-focused service approach
* Prior work experience at a university or other education setting.
