Medical Assistant Role Overview: * Discussing symptoms with patients * Gathering and inputting information into the electronic medical records system * Taking vital signs * Giving injections * Performing diagnostic tests * Collecting specimens * Drawing blood * Sterilizing and cleaning equipment * Maintaining examination rooms * Collaborates closely with physicians and nurses * Delivers direct patient care dependent on what active certification allows * Responsible for decisions focusing on interpretation of area/department policy and methods for completing assignments * Works within defined parameters to identify work expectations and quality standards, but has some latitude over prioritization/timing, while working under minimal direction * Follows standard policies/practices that allow for some opportunity for interpretation/deviation and/or independent discretion Vaccine Policy: * Humana, and its affiliates, encourages primary vaccination and an initial booster for forward-facing staff, except in cases of approved exceptions, in keeping with existing policy. * We recommend eligible team members receive COVID-19 boosters per CDC guidance, including the updated booster, with specific protection for Omicron variants, but vaccination is not a requirement of employment. * Masks are required regardless of vaccination status unless you are eating, drinking, or are working in an office alone. Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks: Escort patients to and from the exam room, preparing the patient for their examination. Enter complete medical histories along with patients' current medications into the chart. Assist the Physician/Provider in the room by scribing the notes in the patient's medical record. Assist with setting up biopsies, excisions, suture removals, and cosmetic procedures. Prepare and collect path/lab specimens, notify patients of results, and schedule follow-up appointments. Daily cleaning and organizing exam rooms, along with stocking the rooms. Laboratory maintenance that includes cleaning and autoclaving instruments. Other duties as assigned to the back office. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Certified Medical Assistant preferred but not required. Medical Assistant training is required. Qualifications: Must have 1-2 years of experience working in a medical office as a medical assistant. Prior Dermatology and cosmetic experience is preferred. Quality written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail. Strong phone etiquette. Teamwork. Professional in appearance and mannerisms. Able to demonstrate compassion and caring when dealing with others, patients, and co-workers.
