Job Responsibilities:
This is a Medical Assistant position in the Delray Health Center, working as a member of a multidisciplinary team with the primary goal of supporting the providers and nursing staff in the care of patients receiving service in the various clinic, by performing a broad range of clinical and administrative duties. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, preparing patients for examination and administering mediations as directed by physician or medical provider. Administrative may include scheduling appointment. Work is performed under the supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions.
This position is designated as a sensitive position and is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Confidential information clinical data sets: Clinical Information, and Epidemiology. This position may view, update and release patient information using the Health Management System (HMS) data system and FL SHOTS.
Clinical duties:
Records patient's medical history, medication list, allergies, any recent test results and records in medical record.
Prepares clients to be seen by provider and ensure appropriate exam and testing supplies are in the room
Explains exam and procedure to patient
Informs providers of any known abnormal lab or diagnostic results and informs provider when patients are ready to be seen.
Assists providers with patient exams and acts as chaperon
Enters laboratory requisitions written by providers
Prepares and ensures specimens are correctly labeled for transport to laboratory
Inputs referrals according to the provider into referral database (Plan Link/EPIC)
Administers medications per provider orders and documents required information in the electronic health record.
provides immunization as recommended by nursing assessment and records necessary information into Florida Shots.
Assists with vaccine inventory and temperature logs.
Assists with medication inventory
Assists with cleaning and sterilization of equipment
Complete follow-up lists by following provider and Nurse instructions.
Takes patient's vital signs and reports any abnormalities to a nurse or provider
Ensures a safe and healthy environment by adhering to OSHA guidelines for the prevention of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, utilization of universal precautions
Assists nurses as needed
Assist with ensuring efficient patient flow
Offers client education and information regarding referrals and follow up.
Provides pretest counseling prior to performing HIV rapid testing
Conducts follow up calls to patients for missed appointment
Contacts patients regarding test results and need for follow up
Serve as the backup to perform laboratory collections (venipunctures/urine/finger sticks) testing.
Responds to emergency situations
Administrative
Participates in meetings and in services as assigned.
Schedules time off in advance and collaborates with supervisor to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.

Education:
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) plus one of the following:
Medical Assistant certification or diploma from an accredited MA program

Experience:
Minimum one year of recent experience in a medical setting is strongly preferred.
