The Mechanical Project Engineer will function as part of a multi-discipline internal engineering team reporting to the Director of Detailed Engineering & Design. The Mechanical Project Engineer should have a thorough understanding of mechanical design requirements, metallurgical requirements, rotating equipment, and evaluation of pipeline facilities. The Mechanical Engineer should have familiarity with other disciplines (pipeline, instrumentation, electrical, etc.) needed for commercially driven capital projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for mechanical engineering and design including design criteria, material selection, and equipment sizing in compliance with codes and standards.
Develop PFDs, P&IDs, and mechanical equipment lists.
Act as part of the internal engineering team to execute engineering project deliverables for Project Managers consistent with company standards, specifications, and expectations. Capabilities:
Working knowledge and experience of pump selection and operation including horizontal pumps, vertical pumps, and โcan' pumps, both centrifugal and positive displacement (PD) type.
Working knowledge and experience with compressor selection (including reciprocating, centrifugal, and screw-type) and operation.
Working knowledge and experience in the selection and application of gas and liquid pipeline valves (gate/ball valve, check valve, control valve, relief valve, actuators, etc.).
Working knowledge and experience with vibration analysis, hydraulics, surge analysis, and pipe stress analysis.
Experience with industry standards 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195, ASME B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8, all applicable API standards, OSHA, and welding codes and standards.
Ability to calculate minimum pipe wall thickness and pipe grade requirements, calculate internal design pressure, size pipe, calculate external loading, and size relief valves.
Knowledge of other engineering disciplines (i.e., foundation design, electric motors & motor control, metering, building design, heat exchangers, separators, and other associated equipment for pump and compressor station installations, conceptual engineering and design systems associated with compressor and pump facilities).
