Reads and interprets equipment schematics for commercial kitchen and serving equipment.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required.
At least 5 years' experience in the repair and maintenance of commercial kitchen equipment.
At least 3 years' experience with the repair and maintenance of refrigeration equipment such as freezers, coolers, and ice making equipment.
At least 2 years' experience with the repair and maintenance of gas or electric cooking equipment such as ranges, ovens, grills, or fryers.
Basic electrical troubleshooting skills (including AC and DC motors and controls).
Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Position Summary

The Opportunity
We are pursuing qualified candidates to fill Elevator Mechanic positions in the Maintenance & Operations Section. Selected candidates will maintain, inspect, and repair operating and safety features of elevators, dumbwaiters, and escalators and maintain and inspect electronic control panels, switches, relays, signal devices, and other related equipment. Probationary Period: 12 months Mechanic I:
Under direct supervision, assists higher-level maintenance staff in a wide range of facility, plant, machinery and equipment maintenance and repair work; and performs related duties as assigned.
Mechanic II and III:
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of skilled technical duties in the construction, installation, maintenance, repair and servicing of sophisticated and complex mechanical systems and machinery used in the production, treat ment, storage, transmission and distribution of water, wastewater, recycled water and composting; maintains plants and buildings including painting and plumbing, performs skilled welding and machine shop duties; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Mechanic I:
A Mechanic I performs entry-level work in the semi-skilled and skilled maintenance trades while under the direction of a journey-level mechanic. Incumbents must gain proficiency and attain the skills necessary to function at the next higher level while independently providing semi-skilled facilities, plumbing, masonry, fabrication, painting and maintenance work.
Employees in this class typically report to an Operations, Maintenance, Compost or Facilities Program Supervisor.
Mechanic II:
Mechanic II is the skilled journey-level class in this class series. Incumbents perform journey-level duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of water, wastewater, recycled water, groundwater recharge and composting facilities, transmission systems and related equipment. Incumbents perform plant mechanic, machinist, welder, crane operator, rigger, plumber, pipefitter and machine tool operation. All incumbents are qualified to perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance of the Agency's equipment and facilities.
Employees in this class typically report to an Operations, Maintenance, Compost or Facilities Program Supervisor and may provide technical direction to lower-level mechanics.
Mechanic III:
Mechanic III requires a higher level of knowledge, experience and certification in the preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance of the Agency's equipment and facilities. Incumbents may also provide work guidance to lower-level staff. Assignments vary, and some jobs may require a mechanic with more specialized knowledge.
Employees in this class typically report to an Operations, Maintenance, Compost or Facilities Program Supervisor and may provide technical direction to lower-level mechanics.
Employees in this class typically report to a Maintenance Supervisor and provide lead work direction and guidance to Mechanics.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES:
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Mechanic I:One year of experience in semi-skilled maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a public agency is preferred.
Mechanic II:
Three years of experi ence in the installation, maintenance and repair of wastewater/water, recycled water and composting facilities and equipment or similar industrial mechanical maintenance and repair experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Mechanic III:
A Mechanic II may be considered for advancement to Mechanic III after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class; obtaining the specified licenses, certificates, and special requirements of the Mechanic II class as described in the General Unit Memorandum of Understanding.

Essential Qualifications
Two or more years of experience as an HVAC and Refrigeration Mechanic. Thorough knowledge of high and low-pressure chillers, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and other mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in the operation, maintenance and repair of such equipment. Thorough mechanical and technical knowledge.
