Airplane Structures Mechanic
Mechanic Job In San Antonio, TX
Requirements:
• 4+ years of experience working with material/metals - aluminum (required), titanium, and stainless
actually modifying the airframe - not people just performing testing! Drills in their HANDS - not automated
Not Composite - people with 787 experience will have a tougher time drilling through aluminum
The bulk of the titanium is in the tail. So because it's a confined space; we have to find out where the headcount is and what the actual need is
• 4+ years of experience working with schematics, specifications, assembly drawings and standard operating procedures
• 4+ years of experience using structures hand tools such as: drills 45 and 90 degrees, pancake adapters, counter sink cages, hole finders, and rivet guns
• 4+ years of experience working heavy structures: locating, drilling, countersinking and fastening structures (doublers, stringers, webs, seat tracks, etc.) to aircraft
HEAVY structures - someone doing actual airplane modifications, NOT just production
• Ability to work variable shifts (i.e. scheduled and unscheduled overtime; weekends and holidays) to support mission requirements and workload
Preferred:
• Experience with Depot Level/Heavy Structures maintenance
• Experience with Executive Fleet aircraft maintenance and operations
• AMP certification - preferred site wide, but not necessarily needed for structures
• Operate a forklift, mobile crane, and riding type electric powered elevating equipment to accomplish work assignment
Day to Day:
One of our large aerospace clients is looking to is looking for a Structures Mechanic to join our Executive Fleet team in San Antonio, TX. This position requires an individual to work onsite at a location in which access is limited to US Citizens only.
Position Responsibilities:
• Perform close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation to critical support structures and fracture critical areas
• Locate blind holes necessary for installation of new structural items to existing structure
• Perform efforts associated with sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving structure in accordance with standard repair processes
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specification, and retrofit requirements to perform structural modifications and repairs
• Use tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot level modification and repair of structural parts
• Determine functionality of basic electrical systems
• Access aircraft data via computer systems and initiate on-line parts and discrepancy requests
Day to Day to talk through -
DITL: show up, team meeting, reviewing job plans and engineering drawings/ gathering the job requirements, understand what parts are required for them to be successful, gather the parts, and once they understand the job (about an hour into day)
After they gather parts, they locate them per the drawing, clamp them up, or use other drill guides/shop aides they have and they mark them out; get dimensions, using standard measuring tools and calibers, scales, etc.
get confirmation located correctly; they then drill hole, make sure hole is good and then if all is well they will remove it and deeber it and fasten it up
^ that is the easiest thing they will do
The other things they will do:
EX) 20 foot seat track - just the seat track plus 20 other parts that need to be located all together they could spend all day trying to get these parts exactly where they need to be; they could find issues and have to work with quality and engineering to fix those - could be big disruption to their plans
Days could consist of multiple days of drilling or they could have a disruption as an example above
Complex structures build and they need to be able to not just do a bracket (FIRST EXAMPLE) but they need to be able to do complex structural builds
Compensation:
$35-55/hr
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
