ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO: * Responsible for stationary mechanical maintenance services; maintains, inspects and repairs equipment and vehicles to ensure safety and on-going operation. * Diagnoses and repairs operating equipment including electrical and mechanical systems as well as vehicles and/or heavy landfill equipment. May test or move vehicles on-site. * Diagnoses, tests, repairs and maintains stationary processing equipment such as balers, conveyors, hoppers, electric motors and controls, as well as maintenance shop and company facilities. * Performs basic fabrication work using welding equipment, torches, tools and/or machinery. * Orders and maintains shop parts, tools, equipment and supplies. * Accurately and efficiently completes paperwork and/or computer database entries relating to the work performed. * May act as a lead worker by instructing and directing others by assigning, reviewing and checking work. * Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is: * Four years of progressively responsible mechanical experience as a journeyman mechanic (or equivalent combination of education and experience). * Waste and recycling industry experience preferred. * Experience working in a maintenance facility or related environment with vehicles, processing equipment such as: balers, conveyors, hoppers, electric motors and landfill equipment preferred. * Experience and knowledge of DOT Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits, preferred. * Expert knowledge of diesel and/or compressed natural gas engines, heavy equipment mechanical components and parts, as well as fabrication tools and techniques. * Knowledge of alternating and direct current electrical controls and motor systems. * Knowledge of federal, state and local job site health and safety rules, regulations and best practices; understanding of potential job hazards. * Basic computer programs. * High school diploma or GED preferred. * Graduation from a formalized mechanical trade school highly desirable. * Valid driver's license, required. Commercial driver's license class A or B, preferred. The Shop Mechanic will ensure excellent service to both external and internal customers (i.e. - Service Manager, Shop Supervisor, Invoicing Supervisor, etc.) through the timely and accurate repair of equipment, including communicating missing, broken, or damaged parts on outgoing or incoming equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Operations: Physically inspects and fills out equipment inspection forms for equipment returned from rent Expertly identifies, makes required repair parts list, and quickly repairs various rental equipment including, but not limited to tractors, agricultural water pumps, large electrical generators, light towers, etc. Assist in the maintenance of the shop, warehouse, and vehicles, make deliveries and pick-ups, and work in the field service area maintaining equipment at customer locations Ensures that in house labor and replacement costs are captured and entered via the work order system so that proper invoicing can occur Ability to mentor and train Mechanics in Tier 1 and Tier 2 Repairs are 20% added to book time Customer Service: Timely monitor equipment repair in the shop Actively and aggressively looks for missing, broken, or damaged equipment to help lower business costs Communicate with the supervisor and other mechanics about shop questions or needs in either written or verbal form in a clear, professional, and efficient manner General Requirements: Comfortable and willing to move/use equipment such as, but not limited to, forklifts, large tractors, water trucks, RTVs, Jacks, etc. Repair body panels, hoods and lights Able to change tires and perform oil changes on equipment Change seals, rings, belts, blades and oil Ability to identify mid-level electrical diagnostics and hydraulic problems for repair Be able to fuel equipment Ability to rebuild the drivetrain Be able to perform basic Wash Rack duties such as washing equipment and cleaning chemicals to remove all traces of dirt on rental equipment.
