We are now accepting applications for the following position: POSITION: Mechanical Engineer LOCATION: Blackfoot, Idaho JOB SUMMARY: The Mechanical Engineer at Spudnik Equipment Company is responsible for the design and engineering of structural and component parts for agricultural equipment that will plant, harvest, transport and handle potatoes and other crops. Teamwork and customer service skills are important as Engineers are expected to work directly and indirectly with customers, vendors, plant personnel, and other engineers. Quality of workmanship, attention to detail and timelines, teamwork, and self-motivation are critical assets for this position. Tasks and projects typically include research, component selection, design, testing, documentation, and production support. Engineer must be willing and able to work with their hands, working in outdoor and inclement weather conditions at times in addition to designing in an office environment. The Engineer will demonstrate high levels of responsibility and accountability, working effectively and efficiently on all assigned tasks and projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Design agricultural equipment and components using requirements provided by sales staff, customers, service technicians, and management; Benchmark, analyze, and compare current equipment models and prototype designs to industry standards, and be prepared to present findings to the project team; Ensure equipment safety and quality by calculating and confirming stress in critical design areas using standard engineering processes; Troubleshoot structural and design problems on existing machines using feedback provided by sales staff, customers, service technicians, production personal, and management; Present design solutions/options to the project team and/or upper management and find the best solution for Spudnik; Use designated CAD systems to design improvements and upgrades on current equipment as well as prototype machines or subassemblies; Communicate with internal and external customers effectively and professionally; Create, maintain, and provide complete and accurate documentation of designs including schematics, prints, diagrams, quality check sheets, and bills of material; Specify the final assembly process for successful equipment production; Redirect efforts in projects or project focus due to customer or production needs; Work closely with management members to keep a clear focus on company goals and objectives. REQUIREMENTS: Possess Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Minimum 5 years of relevant experience Well-developed knowledge and understanding of mechanical principles and applications; Basic knowledge of hydraulic, electric and electronic schematics; Background in agricultural industry preferred, but not required; Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, critical thinking, and analytical skills; Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; Ability to travel frequently on day trips and occasional overnight trips when required. Ability to read and interpret instructional drawings and schematics; Ability to effectively work with CAD systems, spreadsheets, word processing documents, and other applicable computer systems and software. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dust mists, gases or poor ventilation. There is air and or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.

The position is a full-functioning, journey level Mechanic position performing routine maintenance and repair duties on vehicles and equipment, including light and heavy shop tools and equipment, gasoline and diesel assets including, but not limited to, pickup trucks, dump trucks, track hoes, loaders, backhoes, lawnmowers, weed eaters, pipe saws and tampers, electric brakes, steering systems, air brakes, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning units, refuse, snow and ice equipment and passenger vehicles. Mechanics must have their own tools (see minimum tool requirement list). The job requires knowledge of the maintenance, repair, fabrication, welding and operation of power tools and specialized diagnostic equipment. The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the public. The work environment is a vehicle and equipment maintenance shop environment with some work being done at job sites in a public street environment that includes hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment, moving vehicles, and may occasionally include exposure to adverse weather conditions and traffic hazards. The noise level is generally moderate but with occasional exposure to noisy and/or loud equipment. The job is an on-call position, responding to emergency situations. Employees designated as immediate response personnel must live thirty (30) minutes or less from their usual daily work site. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Performs routine, scheduled and emergency maintenance and repair on City equipment and vehicles in repair shop and on job sites, as needed. Determines if equipment is safe to operate and releases for operation. * Responds to calls of equipment with mechanical and/or safety problems, determining if repairs can be made on site or if vehicle must be towed back to shop. * Performs diagnostic and repair work on major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, and systems including, but not limited to, power and drive trains, electrical, heating and air conditioning, fuel, emissions, brake, steering, hydraulic, and related systems. * Performs a variety of inspections to determine condition of vehicles and equipment, necessary repairs and maintenance, and performs maintenance and repairs as needed. Maintains vehicle and equipment compliance with air quality and emission standards. * Maintains inspection, maintenance, and repair parts, fluids, supplies, records, documentation, and logs. Maintains and repairs shop and repair equipment. Maintains shop building and grounds, including snow removal. * Stays current on knowledge and skills by attending training sessions and staying current on technical publications. Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices. Performs other duties as assigned. Deliver emissions components to center manager for customer presentation. when applicable Install emissions components Perform visual inspection of belts, hoses, and other hood compartment components, document unusual conditions Perform additional services, as needed, perform final safety and quality check Record information on Work Order Other Duties and Responsibilities In addition to the duties listed above, every crew member is responsible for general center maintenance and cleaning duties such as mopping, washing center windows, lawn mowing, clearing litter, snow and ice from the site, and cleaning restrooms. Crew members must attend crew meetings and run errands as required, as well as other duties assigned by a supervisor.
