ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, pumps of various types, reciprocating gas compressors, air compressors, blowers, fans, diesel engines, hydraulic cranes.

Also required is performing repetitive motions and extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking for varying lengths of time. The position requires interacting and communicating professionally with others via speaking, hearing and writing, learning new tasks, processes and concepts, thinking to solve problems, concentrating on required tasks, distinguishing color and depth perception and reading data, figures, electronic and hard copy documents.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fleet Mechanic III, under minimal to no supervision, performs complex repairs requiring advanced mechanical knowledge and skill, to include the ability to diagnose, think critically and work systematically on a wide variety of heavy-duty trucks and equipment. This position requires the ability to work across all major systems: Engine, drive-train, brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, hydraulic, air systems and computer diagnosis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.
Performs complex preventive maintenance tasks and repairs on heavy duty trucks that require mechanical knowledge and skill including repairs on major systems and its components.

Investigates malfunctions and breakdowns.

Identifies and determines parts required for repairs of disassembled units.

PAY PHILOSOPHY
Starting salaries for PT Faculty are based on educational achievement and relevant experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. STARTING SALARY
Part-time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $2,007 and $3,108 per semester per 10% load.
Part-time faculty with non-classroom assignments are paid between $2,678 and $4,146 per semester per 10% load.
Part-time faculty salaries are governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers, AFT, Local 1828, AFL-CIO and the Ventura County Community College District. More information can be found in the AFT contract.

Employment Standards
One year of experience performing preventive maintenance and routine repairs on motor vehicles or heavy equipment; OR
A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Additional Qualifications: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License upon appointment. Possession of a valid California Class A Driver's License within one year of appointment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

POSITION SUMMARY:
