The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing and servicing all trucks and trailers in a safe, timely, and cost-efficient manner. All commercial motor vehicle equipment must be repaired and maintained in accordance with FMCSA requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and company policies.
The successful mechanic will be knowledgeable in air systems, brakes, wiring, tires, and A/C for tractors and trailers. CDL, heavy inspection license and welding experience are a plus, but not required. Perform preventative maintenance inspections on all assigned inbound equipment. Diagnose and repair/replace mechanical and electrical systems according to established service criteria.
Hours:Hazmat is currently searching for qualified Diesel Mechanics to work 1st shift in our Buffalo, NY headquarters. The shift includes four 10-hour days Sun-Wed or Wed-Sat and offers shift differential for Saturday and Sunday.

Identifies vehicle and equipment malfunctions and determines corrective actions to be taken through testing. Tests vehicles and equipment following repairs. Operates scan tool and other diagnostic test equipment necessary to correct and repair complex problems.

- Union: Mechanic A (Fleet) NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1 STARTING WAGE: $41.77 Under general supervision, installs, removes, overhauls and repairs all automotive (including CNG vehicles), allied equipment, compressors, trenching machines, trailers, back-fillers, forklifts, pumps and tail gates, blowers, generators and welding machines, pneumatic tools and winches, requiring highest degree of skill.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnoses sources and locations of trouble; inspects equipment, including computerized, digital and electronics, to determine condition and extent of repairs advisable and necessary, including use of testing equipment to determine engine operating efficiencies, reporting conditions found.
* Removes, repairs, installs and adjusts units such as, automatic choking equipment, spark advancing devices, starting motors and generators, voltage regulators, distributors, timing gears and chains, gears, bearings, cams, brake linings, differential assemblies, universal joints, clutches, transmissions and wiring of all kinds.
* Fits pistons, rings, pins; replaces and adjusts connecting rod and main bearing; inspects, grinds, reface and adjusts valves and valve seats.
* Replaces doors, body panels and door sills.
* Repairs leaks in the top and bottom tanks of radiators.
* Prepares required reports and records such as repair and service work done on each car, tire and tube records, preventative maintenance status.
* Guides and instructs lower-rated personnel in the garage.
Required Qualifications
Must have all the qualifications of Mechanic B and, in addition:
* Must demonstrate a neat and workmanlike performance of the duties of the Mechanic B.
* Must demonstrate the ability to do the work of this job in a satisfactory manner.
* Must possess certified technician certificate.
