Deliver specialized support, instruction, and advocacy for students with disabilities in a manner that is conducive to academic and personal development.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and student guardians to develop and implement effective Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Participate in IEP meetings and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support each student's goals
Complete and implement lesson plans.
Document progress of students and develop data collection procedures
Multi-categorical/Cross-categorical, intellectual, learning, emotional, and/or behavioral disability special education certifications may be acceptable

SUMMARY
This position is responsible to work with a team to build long-term life-changing relationships with urban youth through various program areas such as in-school, after-school, adventure, advanced leadership - career/college prep, and post-secondary in order to teach in the classroom instruction in character, leadership, and life-skills and engage with the students (outside of the classroom) as a mentor utilizing social/emotional learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

HOURS AND AVAILABILITY:
Staff members must be available Monday through Friday (8-5) for various classroom related activities and teaching 1-2 classes a day. Additionally, there is some availability needed on the weekends for the mentoring aspect of the position in activities that are outside the normal work week. Also, it is probable that there will be a need for consistent availability for after-school mentoring activities 3-5 days a week at various hours (outside of the typical 9-5) depending on the activities or needs of the students. Although there is a great deal of flexibility needed, the organization also recognizes the need for a strong work-life balance and will work with employees to ensure that the workload is effectively shared to provide for enough time off.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The Horizons Colorado at Colorado Academy program seeks a lead interventionist/ 6th grade homeroom teacher for our middle school summer enrichment program.
HCCA offers an enrichment program designed for Denver Public School students from under-resourced communities. The tuition-free program runs for six weeks from June 16 through July 25, 2025 and emphasizes academic enrichment, social and emotional learning, cultural experiences and the arts, and health and wellness - including swimming. Teacher orientation, which is required, will be held on June 10 - 12, 2025.
Homeroom teachers guide daily classroom activities, go on field trips, oversee swimming and outdoor activities, and other duties as required. This position will require some lifting, sitting, walking, and the ability to engage middle school children in their daily activities.
The Middle School Teacher/Interventionist will have responsibilities such as, but not limited to, the following:
Providing instructional, behavioral and emotional support to all students as they participate in all aspects of their summer day
Designing and implementing summer curriculum and lesson plans based on common core and grade appropriate standards
Have strong classroom management skills, be empathetic, and a positive role model and team player
Communicating effectively with the Horizons administration, fellow staff members, and parents
Effectively manage the classroom team including the assistant teacher, intern and volunteer(s).
Collecting observational data related to student's progress in obtaining and using skills/strategies in the classroom and writing a report card at the end of the program
Being available for parent/teacher conferences and other family events as needed
Requirements
Hold a Bachelor's degree and have 3+ years of classroom experience
Be available to attend the full 6-week program, two paid professional development days in March and April, and mandatory staff training sessions the week prior to program start
Complete mandatory state licensing paperwork and online training videos in a timely manner
