Job Overview
The Warehouse Material Handler is responsible for the fulfillment of Customer Orders by retrieving and stacking specific product and quantities as specified on the Pick Ticket/Computer Screen assigned on a pre-determined conveyor and, or pallet. As a PT Inbound Freight Handler, you will load and unload freight onto and off of equipment, as well as assist in the recouping of damaged freight. Prepare, sweep, inspect and cleans trailer(s) before loading freight. Use safe lifting techniques to properly load and unload freight. Select and use proper freight handling equipment to load and unload freight. Such equipment may include forklifts with appropriate hardware, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, rollers, and any other available equipment to move, load, arrange, rearrange, and unload freight. Plan cube utilization and proper weight distribution when loading freight. Count and inspect the condition of freight, documenting any shortages or damage. Review freight bills for special instructions. Check manifests for existing exceptions and check the label and the destination code on manifests against freight bills. Check for special instructions, weight distributions on headloads, and check headloads against the freight bills when loading freight. Verify the hazardous material product description, determine any discrepancies in the paperwork, and verify proper placarding when loading hazardous material. The position requires good working knowledge of governing supply systems, documents and technical manuals.
Key Responsibilities Include But Not Limited to:
Material Handling: Receive, identify, and update Navy & Marine Corps DLR components using technical knowledge and governing supply systems.
Forklift Operation: Operate forklifts for loading/unloading materials, perform minor maintenance, and handle items up to 40 pounds.
Compliance Management: Reject non-compliant items, including non-ATAC DLR and uncertified HAZMAT items. Certify hazardous materials as required.
Data Entry: Accurately record receipt and shipping data in designated databases, both manually and with automated scanning devices. Enter material receipt data within 24 hours of physical receipt.
Material Verification: Physically verify materials, cross-reference identification markings, and generate shipping documentation to determine material disposition.
Packaging and Crating: Perform packaging and woodworking duties according to NAVSUP Packaging Instructions and maintain Wood Packaging Material (WPM) qualifications.
Barcode Labeling: Create barcode labels using a PC/barcode printer.
Container Refurbishment: Clean and refurbish DLR containers, maintaining proficiency with ERP, and managing inventory records. Process an average of 25 DLR components daily with minimal errors, monitored through the Electronic Retrograde Management System (ERMS) and internal Quality Control (QC) reports.
Inventory Management: Conduct quarterly and yearly inventories, ensuring 100% accuracy and compliance with CRRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Customer Service: Respond to customer inquiries, discrepancies, and reports related to DLRs.
Process Adherence: Complete routine and expedited material processes within specified timeframes.
Training and Database Access: Complete required training to maintain access to essential database systems.

Material Handler Job In Norfolk, VA
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Forklift Driver to join our small 6-10 person distribution center that handles building materials, including lumber, hardwood flooring, fixtures, door and cabinet handles. The ideal candidate will have experience in warehouse operations and be willing to take on various tasks as needed. This position requires a strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
**Responsibilities**
+ Safely and efficiently operate forklifts to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise.
+ Load and unload products from trailers and containers, ensuring proper handling and storage.
+ Maintain accurate inventory records by scanning and tracking products using warehouse management systems.
+ Perform routine maintenance checks on forklifts and report any issues to the maintenance team.
+ Pick and prepare orders for shipment, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
+ Keep the warehouse clean and organized, ensuring products are stored in designated areas.
+ Work closely with other warehouse staff and supervisors to meet daily operational goals.
+ Interact with customers and delivery personnel in a professional and courteous manner.
**Essential Skills**
+ Experience in picking, packing, material handling, and inventory management.
+ Proficiency in operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment.
+ Ability to use RF scanners and warehouse management systems.
+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
+ Good communication and teamwork skills.

+ Reliable and self-motivated individual with a high initiative.
+ Ability to problem-solve independently.
+ Willingness to work overtime when needed.

**Work Environment**
Work in a 6-10 person warehouse that is divided into different sections and not climate controlled. The warehouse is organized by racks and rows. The standard shift is Monday to Friday, 8AM-5PM/6PM depending on the workload. Overtime may be required, but there is never overtime on weekends.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
