The Material Handler position exists to support production by receiving and/or transporting raw materials and packaging materials to specified areas. The individual will perform general material handling functions using forklift equipment. The environment includes indoor work, with exposure to forklift fumes and spice orders. In addition, individuals must work well with others in a supportive team environment in order to meet material handling quality and quality standards. Essential Functions: Transport raw materials or packaging materials to specified areas for use and return them to their proper locations. Receives delivery of raw materials and performs required inventory control transactions. Complete and process required inventory control transactions according to company/department standards including scanning and printing tickets with barcode equipment. Process return, if excess material, according to department standards. Includes use of inventory management system (SAP) to adjust quantity in system to update inventory. Maintain materials in a manner that facilitates FIFO product rotation. Transport/store materials to maintain warehouse and/or production areas in a neat and orderly manner. Performs daily housekeeping duties in the production and/or warehouse areas including sweeping, collecting trash and collecting damaged product. Work with co-workers to insure effective production and/or warehouse operations to meet all material handling performance standards. Operate equipment in a safe manner and insure the equipment is in good working order by checking and reporting equipment problems. Follow all safety and Good Manufacturing guidelines. Other Responsibilities: Work in other jobs positions under Materials Management as needed. Accurately enters information into the time clock to record cost center changes, time in and time out. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally. Must successfully complete material handling safety courses and obtain OSHA certification One year production or warehouse experience preferred Forklift experience preferred Must be familiar with Microsoft Windows Must have the ability to read, write and perform simple math calculations. Must be able to communicate effectively and work well with others. Must be able to work in a dusty environment with strong odors. Change lift truck batteries and add water when necessary; keep record of time batteries are changed. Removes excess corrugated from mezzanine and empties baler as required. Takes full bales of cardboard scrap from baler to assigned location in the warehouse. + Maintain accurate records of materials being used and produced, and reports them in appropriate paperwork, back to warehouse personnel. + Remove finished goods and other materials in hold to assigned location. Stores finished goods stacked neatly and in proper height. Verifies that all finished goods removed from the production area must have a product code tag. + Participate in physical inventory taking. + Keep each production line supplied with the proper knock down cases, dividers, pallets and when each pallet is full take that pallet to the warehouse for loading on the trailer; and takes unused cases and dividers back to the warehouse to the proper location. + On limited production, may assist in stock-handler duties or load trailers as needed. + Bring up hot glue cases to the mezzanine, brings color concentrate to the lines, replaces cold glue tote, removes excess cases from production floor, brings slip sheets to production floor, loads storage racks with gaylords, set up rework, set up units of product on hold for Q.C., relieves stock handlers, loads and unloads corrugated trailers, identifies good corrugated from the bad and isolates it. + Follow established forklift procedures and complete required safety and maintenance checklists + Follow established procedures for damaged finished goods and raw materials and report them on line driver report. + Communicate with supervisor regarding shift totals and machine totals reports and with other lift truck operators regarding any changes or problems that arise, including damaged materials, damaged skids, or low inventories. + Complete written documentation as required. + Assist in relieving downstream teammates for breaks and lunches. + Use forklift to move pallets of finished product to stretch wrap machines to stretch wrap them and to staging area after wrapping, or to specify warehouse location. Completes finished goods report or worksheet. + Maintain supplies of corrugated and other packaging supplies at each machine. + Visually inspect all completed pallets of product for quality and conformity to the packaging instructions to ensure quality at the source. + Limited travel may be required. **Qualifications** Minimum of 1 year forklift experience preferred. Working Conditions The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations. • Flexible to work a rotating schedules as business needs arise (typical work week = 40 hours). • Position requires standing for long periods of time (up to 12 hours), bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting products and materials weighing up to 70 pounds. • Routine pushing, pulling, reaching, upper body and arm rotation, arm extension, and climbing ladders. • Very high noise levels in/around bottling line (ear protection required). • Exposure to various temperature changes. • Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (ear plugs, gloves, boots, etc.). Supervision of Others This position does not require any management responsibilities.
