The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient plant asset operation. They develop and implement strategies to provide effective responses to equipment failures including oversight of repairs. They provide skills-based training and work with craftsmen to improve MTTR and act to proactively reduce controllable and predictable equipment failures. They will coordinate with others to implement facility improvements and run small projects for safety, environmental, maintenance methods and OEE revenue generation. **Key Responsibilities** + Develops new and updates existing technical documentation to support reliability including job libraries, specifications, procedures, model PM's, etc. + Supporting maintenance personnel performing work and responding to equipment breakdowns including inspecting work activities for correct methods and standards. + Troubleshooting and determining root cause for equipment breakdowns. + Specify replacement parts and components to improve equipment functionality, specify new components when obsolescence is encountered. + Partner interdepartmentally and with customers impacted by reliability failures. + Develop and implement processes to manage tools, stores, and equipment. Monitor and control costs. + Develop installation and commissioning packages and general project management and oversight. **Typical Education** + Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical/manufacturing) required. **Relevant Experience** + 3 years of manufacturing and project management experience, preferably in the agricultural chemistry industry. + Knowledge of governing and regulatory authorities of the chemical industry and compliance requirements with regulations. The job manages leak detection surveys, valve exercising, and system flushing programs. The job requires a Class IV Drinking Water Distribution Operator certificate*. The job is supervised by the Water Superintendent. The job requires comprehensive knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City water supply and distribution system. Error, omission, or negligence in the performance of maintenance crews could have serious consequences for the viability of the City's water supply, public safety, operation of the distribution system, or potential legal and financial liability due to non-compliance with federal and state requirements. The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public. The work environment includes an office and public street environment that may include exposure to adverse weather conditions, trench excavation, repair of pressurized systems (up to 250 psi), confined spaces, gases, dust, traffic hazards, moving vehicles and heavy equipment at the job site, and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment. Recommends annual budget items related to capital improvement projects or equipment needs and monitors spending for compliance. * Performs pre-project notifications to affected parties including, but not limited to, public notification letters, utilities, businesses, and residences. Tracks progress on projects, preparing reports and documentation. * Coordinates with other division supervisors, Public Works engineering staff, private contractors, and inspectors to adhere to design documents and construction standards. Identifies, resolves and mitigates any construction problems or minimize operational conflicts. * Develops and coordinates ongoing, on the job training, vendor and in-house training for water distribution operator work tasks. Maintains safe working environment, supervising training in and implementation of safety protocols and procedures. * Hires, trains, supervises, assigns, and evaluates employees, including disciplinary actions up to and including terminations. Responsible for assigning and ensuring the availability of on-call stand-by personnel on a rotating basis. * Obtains necessary permits and monitors job sites for compliance with traffic control and safety procedures and protocols related to underground utility installation and road surface repair. Prepares accident and/or damage reports and claims. * Utilizes computerized systems such as maintenance management, warehouse inventory, geographic information, drawing viewers, permitting and as-built archive systems to schedule, assign, track and record work requests on system assets. * Performs injury and accident investigations; documenting incidents and work with the Risk Officer to mitigate risks. * Supervises equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair. * Provides emergency response and cleanup in the event of a water main break by documenting incidents and reporting for potential liability claims. May operate equipment and assist in plumbing activities at the job site, as needed. * Ensures that customer service requests, inquiries, suggestions and complaints are properly investigated and resolved. * Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices. * Performs other duties as assigned.
