FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE: Independently performs semiskilled preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance tasks associated with the upkeep and operation of various types of mail processing, buildings and building equipment, customer service and delivery equipment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Independently performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on plumbing, heating, refrigeration, air-conditioning low-voltage electrical systems, and other building systems and equipment. Performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs on simple control circuitry, bearings, chains, sprockets, motors, belts and belting, and other moving parts or wearing surfaces of equipment. Assembles, installs, replaces, repairs, modifies and adjusts all types of small operating equipment such as letter boxes mechanical scales, stamp vending equipment, building service equipment, mail handling equipment and related equipment. Under the direction of skilled maintenance employees, or clearly written instructions from either hard copy or electronic format, performs specific tasks related to disassembling equipment, replacing parts, relocating and reassembling equipment; assists higher level workers in locating and repairing equipment malfunctions. Maintains an awareness of equipment operation, especially excessive heat, vibration, and noise, reporting malfunctions hazards or wear to supervisor. Uses a variety of hand and power tools, gauging devices and test equipment required, or as directed, to perform the above tasks. May drive a vehicle to transport tools, equipment, employees materials or in the normal performance of assigned duties. Completes or initiates work record sheets, as required. Maintain Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) system. Maintain equipment files, vendor records, quotes, manuals, repair records, etc. Record maintenance and repair costs; control costs through use of appropriate repair and/or purchasing methods. Coordinate with quality personnel to ensure machines are manufacturing products that exceed customer quality expectations. Schedule and coordinate all Total Productive Manufacturing (TPM) events with maintenance and production personnel. Provide necessary training to all employees. Establish and maintain TPM standards on all equipment. Schedule events to ensure equipment meets TPM standards. Maintain employee documentation and schedule labor to meet budget requirements. Maintain performance evaluations, attendance records and review time cards. Direct the work of employees to correct improper work habits and/or behavior; reward good job performance and take corrective action as required. Communicate problems, progress reports and continuous improvement ideas to management staff, maintenance and production personnel. May perform the duties of Production Supervisor as needed or required. Support the development, implementation, maintenance and ongoing improvement of food safety, food defense, and quality systems to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local government regulatory food safety requirements and Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI) or British Retail Consortium (BRC) standards. Ensure maintenance employees adhere to food safety, food defense, and prerequisite programs (such as security, pest control, foreign material control, allergen control, chemical control, etc.) as required. Experience, Educational and Technical Qualifications Our Maintenance Manager must have a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment and a 4 year technical degree and/or equivalent military experience. Experience: BS Mechanical, Chemical Engineer or related with 10 - 30 years of experience with at least 5 years of management. Ideal candidates will have experience from either the Plastics Industry with knowledge of extrusion and compounding or the Chemical Process Industry. CMMS and Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma is a plus. Duties: This Maintenance Manager will have 6-8 direct reports at this 100 non union person plant that runs 24 hours a day 5 days a week.
