This position will provide the Field Service Division to industrial equipment problems by repairing or modifying equipment in-house and on-site at customer locations using a variety of mechanic equipment with opportunities of using portable machining equipment including mills, flange facers, boring bars, lathes, welders and a variety of custom equipment as-needed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with preliminary site visits and job planning
Performs repairs or modifications of equipment as applicable in the field
Operates various portable machining equipment to complete tasks (mills, flange, boring bars, lathes, welders, etc.)
Assists the machine shop with jobs when no field work is scheduled
Training may be required for specific Press knowledge.
Will be cross trained in machining, welding, mechanical and other field solutions as required
Performs work safely and meets regulatory compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
Responsibilities will include assisting Supervisor, Engineering and Manager as it relates to work scope for design and manufacturing of custom machine tools or fixtures
Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or its equivalent
A minimum of 5 years Mechanic and onsite Field machining experience is a plus.
Communication with Project Engineers and Field Machining Supervisor on details of onsite information and work scope for machining onsite.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills are a must
Must be detail orientated and possess strong analytical skills
DOT certification is required, must be 21 years or older
Welding skills a plus
Knowledge and familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft suite of products are necessary
Must be able to read and interpret scope of work and blueprints
Requires a flexible schedule to meet overtime requirements
Frequent travel within North America estimated at 75%
Must be able to lift 50lbs
Position requires individual to work in various elements and be exposed to inclement weather at times

Performs a wide range of duties to set-up, adjust and operate precision grinding machines (ID / OD / Surface Grinders). Grinds internal and external surfaces to close and exacting tolerances which involve several interrelated dimensions. Grind parts to required finish on work having steps or surfaces, high precision diameters, recesses and tapers. This requires skill, judgment and knowledge related to precision grinding techniques and finishes.
Scope and Responsibilities:
Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Plans a sequence of standard and recognized operations. Makes set-ups and adjustments on special and difficult work. Plans grinding sequence, selects speeds, feeds, wheels and holding devices. Dress wheel as required.
Positions, aligns and secures workpiece in machine, set grinding head to conform with specifications, making required adjustments and grinding parts of various styles and sizes. For example: spindles, spindle sleeves, rams and housings and bushings.
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
Studies and works from part drawings, specifications, charts, etc. (on a variety of steels, alloys and castings) to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece. Works to very close tolerances.
Uses a range of measuring instruments such as scales, square, calipers, micrometers, verniers, indicators, air gauges, special fixed and adjustable measuring devices to make set-ups, adjustments and to check work.
Detects unusual conditions, defective materials or operating difficulties and report to proper supervision. Maintains machine and work area in a clean and orderly manner.
Provides training and technical support to other employees within the grinding department, as required.
Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
May also operate and provide basic maintenance of the straightening presses and manual lathes.
Qualifications:
Over three years of related experience or an Associate's Degree in a Machinist program.
Skills Required:
Knowledge of grinding methods, wheels, cutting qualities of metals.
Knowledge of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
Assigned person must maintain quality standards and have the ability to efficiently perform complex work.
Ability to use shop math together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, etc.

General Description:
Design & build tools to specification required and set-up tools and dies to produce parts to correct specifications and make any mechanical adjustment required without technical instruction or assistance from supervisor.
Duties:
1. Analyzes variety of specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to make and repair metal working dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gages, and machinist hand tools, applying knowledge of tool and die designs and construction, shop mathematics, metal properties, and lay-out, machining, and assembly procedures.
2. Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product.
3. Computes dimensions, decides on machining to be done, and plans lay-out and assembly operations.
4. Measures, marks and scribes metal stock for machining.
5. Sets up and operates machine tools, such as lathe, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specification.
6. Lifts machine parts manually or with hoist, and positions and holds them on surface plate or worktable, using such devices as vices, V-blocks, and angle plates.
7. Uses hand tools, such as scrapers and abrasive stones, and power grinders to smooth flat and contoured surfaces and fit and assemble parts into assemblies or mechanisms.
8. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances, using measuring instruments, such as dial indicators, gage blocks, thickness gages, and micrometers.
9. Dowels and bolts parts together, using hand tools such as hammers and wrenches.
10. Connect wiring and hydraulic lines to install electric and hydraulic components.
11. Heat treat tools or parts.
Examine standard or previously used tools or dies and decide on modifications to be made
Develop specifications from general descriptions and make drawing or sketch of product.
Dismantle tool & die and repair or replace parts to repair tool or die.
Be required to have experience with particular kind of tools or dies in all 4 manufacturing sections (Eyelet, Press, Baird, Tuft).
Observe and practice good housekeeping.
Adhere to all safety rules and regulations. May be required to perform any other work as may be determined by the company.
General Qualifications:
1. Must have successfully completed an official Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship program or have had comparable work experience, plus extensive experience.
