Machine Operator Job 13 miles from Damascus
Job Details Portland, OR $22.50 - $22.50 HourlyMachine Operator
Machine all manufactured pipe fittings to ANSI Code B16-9 machining a 37.5 bevel with a land on the finished ends of weld fittings, such as Elbows and Tees.
Requires proficiency and understanding of the essential work instructions and operating and quality control procedures that govern:
Load fittings that are being machined properly in the fixture(s) maintaining correct plane and placement to ensure correct wall and length. Follow proper clamping procedure before indexing or in-feeding the cutting heads.
Change and replace tooling throughout the run as needed; either because of worn tooling or a change in the rough part creates a need for a different cutting tool to do the job. If a different cutting tool is used, then change in head speed and feed rate will be made. Anytime a tooling change is made, the length I.D. and O.D. chamfer and compound, if used will be affected so the operator will also have to check the length, I.D. / O.D. chamfer and compound bevel and make all the necessary changes before continuing this production run.
Adjust tooling and fixtures to accommodate the next size of fitting. When going from XH to STD for instance, the I.D. must be changed and at the same time keeping all the other cutting tools in the correct relationship to each other.
Visually inspect parts that are being machined to ensure they meet the code ANSI B16.9. Maintain quality parts with hourly checks of lengths, plane ways, I.D. / O.D. Visually check for surface flaws on each fitting. Record results of hourly checks on the Process Control Sheets for later studies comparison to prior runs.
Grind fittings using hand grinder to remove burrs and surface flaws, reducing the rework time needed at another station. This grinding is limited to the length of time it takes to machine another part.
Grinding/Paint line/Forge Shop: direct flow of finished product to correct station, i.e. Paintline: parts needing no further work; Grinding: parts needing grinding go the grind line; Preliminary Inspection: short, thin and otherwise non-conforming product goes to preliminary inspection. This must be done promptly and a “routing tag” and “reject tag” properly filled out to accompany the fittings.
Identify unacceptable parts and separate from “work-in-progress” before machining and send to non-conformance for inspection and evaluation.
Inspect and adjust machinery periodically, making sure to use the proper lockout/tagout procedure before doing any adjustments.
Clean out ways and keep chips swept up around machine to provide a safe and efficient work area.
Operate forklift when required to move fittings. Keep oilers filled. Report any visual or suspected mechanical problems on the machines. Grease and maintain the cutting heads.
