The primary objective of the jail-based competency restoration service provider is to deliver competency restoration and behavioral health services utilizing Evidence Based Practices to defendants that are committed to the Department of Mental Health as Incompetent to Proceed. DESCRIPTION This is a responsible position delivering integrated substance abuse and mental health services to consumers who suffer from substance abuse problems who are enrolled in a community mental health program. The work assignment involves delivering both community and office based services. An employee in this class provides counseling and guidance to assist consumers in their personal recovery process including addressing such clinical issues as developing crisis response plans, rolling with resistance, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, problem solving, social skills training, education and development of natural support. Duties include completing standardized assessments, developing and completing treatment plans in conjunction with mental health treatment providers, individual counseling, group counseling, individual/group education, facilitating completion of treatment plan goals, and subsequent daily documentation. All work is in accordance with the requirements of the Missouri Department of Mental Health Integrated Dual Diagnosis Standards. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Work may include but is not limited to the following examples: Remains alert during working hours, attends work as scheduled, and complies with attendance policies. In face-to-face interviews with consumers, conducts person centered assessment of needs with consumers to identify targets for interventions and needs, and develops individualized treatment goals and objectives.Determines appropriate course of action. Provides culturally sensitive, effective therapeutic services in accordance with the Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment model directed at treatment plan goals that include individual and group counseling, case management assistance, and information and education directed at addressing problems related to substance abuse. Assesses, monitors, evaluates and records consumer participation, progress and adjustment against measurable recorded treatment goals in a timely manner, by using collaborative documentation. Coordinates the delivery of needed services to consumers with public assistance organizations and social service organizations.Make appropriate referrals and appointments. Maintains timely, legible, clear, concise, and well organized records of services provided.Charts the results of assessment and treatment plans; writes reports, progress notes, discharge summaries and other consumer related date, by using collaborative documentation. Must be able to use the agency electronic medical record program for all documentation.Is required to use collaborative documentation. Attends multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings and provides information regarding consumer problems, progress, plans.Attends staff meetings, administrative meetings and training as required. Develops and maintains effective professional rapport and therapeutic relationships with consumers. Maintains the confidentiality of consumer information. Develops and maintains professional, cooperative working relationships within the agency, and with state and local contractors, public assistance and social service organizations. Adheres to established professional ethical and behavioral standards of conduct and continuing professional development. May arrange/transport consumers to therapeutic activities, as required. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS The following education and experience qualifications are the minimum requirement used to admit or reject applicants for consideration. A Qualified Substance Abuse Professional as defined in Missouri 9 CSR 10-7 which includes one of the following: A qualified mental health professional who is licensed in Missouri with at least one year of full time experience in the treatment of individuals with substance use disorders. A person who is certified or registered as a substance abuse professional by the Missouri Substance Abuse Counselor Certification Board; A person who is within one year of meeting one of the above criteria and who has a training plan which has been approved the Missouri Department of Mental Health. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATION Possesses a valid driver's license and is, and remains insurable, under Family Guidance Center automobile liability insurance. Description of the Role We are currently seeking a Licensed Addictions Counselor to join our team at The Guidance Center in Leavenworth, KS. In this role, you will be responsible for providing outpatient alcohol/drug evaluation and treatment services to clients participating in the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. You will work closely with clients in the community who have co-occurring substance abuse and mental illness, delivering individualized support through evidence-based treatment approaches. Responsibilities Provide intake and readmission services, including offering psychoeducational information on the potential benefits and risks of medically assisted treatment for substance use disorders. Refer appropriate clients for Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) services to medical staff for further evaluation. Onboard and orient eligible clients to ACT services, operation, and procedures. Provide individual, family, and group recovery services, as well as ongoing treatment planning for substance abuse clients. Collaborate with the medication management team regarding the treatment of clients participating in ACT services. Provide treatment to alcohol/drug clients referred by specific programs that meet the requirements for those programs in terms of content and duration, including leading weekly SUD Groups. Offer a minimum of four appointment hours per week after 5 pm; some program needs may require considerably more hours after 5, with corresponding adjustments in start time. Requirements Required: Bachelor's degree in an addiction-related field, psychology, social work, human services, or another related area with 33 credit hours of specific coursework in addiction counseling. Licensed by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board as a Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) by the first day of employment. Two years' experience in providing alcohol/drug assessment and treatment. Preferred: Experience working with clients being induced on Suboxone and/or withdrawing from opioids.
