The Liaison serves as a bridge between eligible families, schools, and community resources, addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by newly arrived Afghan families. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Family Engagement and Communication: Establish and maintain strong, trusting relationships with SSAS eligible Afghan families, serving as a primary point of contact. Facilitate effective communication between families and school staff, including teachers, counselors, and administrators, using culturally appropriate methods and, when necessary, language translation. Provide culturally sensitive support and guidance to families regarding school policies, procedures, and expectations. Organize and facilitate workshops and meetings to educate families about the American education system, school resources, and student support services. Actively listen to and address family concerns and advocate for their needs within the school system. Student Support and Advocacy: Assist with the enrollment, screening, and placement of newly arrived Afghan students, ensuring a smooth transition into the school environment. Explain academic, attendance, and behavioral expectations to students and families, emphasizing the importance of regular school participation. Meet with Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) from Afghanistan and collaborate with teachers to develop individualized instructional plans that address their specific needs and learning gaps. Monitor student attendance, academic progress, and social-emotional well-being, identifying and addressing potential barriers to success. Assist in ensuring Afghan students engage in a variety of academic programs, extra-curricular activities, and special programs that support their overall success and integration. Community Collaboration and Resource Coordination: Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, social service agencies, and cultural support groups that serve the Afghan community.
