Program and Job Description: The Public Health Laboratory (PHL) seeks one qualified candidate to serve as a supervisor in the Environmental Sciences section. The Department of Pathology is seeking a Supervisor (Allied Health Intermediate Supervisor) for the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, a full-service, 24 hour a day academic laboratory with state-of-the-art testing and a robust test development pipeline. The chosen individual will serve as a technical resource for staff and an administrative lead for the laboratory. The supervisor will be responsible for quality assurance of testing processes, training, competency and education of staff, scheduling of staff, and payroll approval. Job Responsibilities Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary Assist with processing of specimens when needed Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment Requirements Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements Minimum 4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience is required Certified by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG) is a plus ASCP or AMT certification is preferred Florida Cytogenetics Technologist license required Ability to work independently and within a team environment Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs In order to ensure the safety of our patients , this position requires as part of the post-offer onboarding process, successful completion of medical surveillance testing which includes: TB testing; proof of immunity or vaccination for Hepatitis B, Varicella, and MMR; annual flu vaccination; and color blind deficiency testing (if required by position).
